Audix mic's

Thanks for the feedback regarding the Sennheiser 604's, guys.
To those who responded, one more question: Would you say
that the 604's blow the doors off of 57's for rack toms or snare?
Or not? Or do they just sound different, not necessarily better or
worse?

AND, does anyone have any experience with Audix mic's?
Namely, D-2's and/or D-6's? (i.e.) Wondering about the possibility
of D-2's for floor toms, D-6 for a kick drum. Again, fire away.

I pretty much use only Audix mics. The D2 is IMO one of the greatest tom mics around. Has a great focused sound. All of the D series have great off axis rejection (>30 db) and are super cardoid. So you will get more isolation than putting a 57 on a tom for example.

As far as the D6 goes, it's a great mic too. I like it because it works very well with the projects I record. A lot of the guys I record have 20" kick drums and it works very well on those. It has a very clean sound to it. Not a classic sound like the AKG D112, but a clean sound. It does have an impressive frequency curve to it. I don't really have to apply any EQ to a kick with this mic because it has a huge scoop from 300hz-800hz. It's got a really nice sound to it. Only drawback is that it is lower output than an AKG D112.

Hi again.
The e604's are great drum mics, are small and stay out of the way and give terrific drum sound (I own a couple). The SM57 is a far more versatile mic. I works VERY well on snare and at the same time makes a great vocal and instrument mic. I own a real old SM57 and still use it.I don't think you'd ever want to use an e604 as a vocal mic. They are very different mics (both real good)

I don't own any Audix mics but I have worked with them. I absolutely love the D6 as a kick drum mic, I almost bought one, but a deal came my way for an ATM25 which is a mic that suits my personal needs a little better. The Audix D6 mic seems to enjoy being pushed. If you are heavy on the pedal and you don't want the distorted click of the other mics, then the Audix is for you. I'm not that heavy on the kick and I was getting good clean sound from it also, so it is versatile. It's a real good product.

I'm not as familiar with the others, but I have friends that use them. What I CAN say is: I've never heard anything bad about them. And that's saying a lot. There are people that will trash anything just because they weren't playing well that day,

I personally like the D2 on the snare and the D4's on the toms.The D6 is a super mic but I have to vote for the ATM25 as an all-time best kik mic..It has a great low end to it..its tight and focused and also being hyper cardioid it rejects well.Its the only kik mic I've found that gets semi close to the old D12 in low end .The Audix drum mics are built to take any abuse a drummer could heap upon them...
