I had 2.0 installed and working fine. The last time I tried to start it, nothing happened. I read through some internet musings about plug-ins causing a similar problem, so I tried a few things like deleting the audition_settings.xml file in the 2.0 folder, I changed the regisitry entry for auto-scan of plug ins from 0 to 1, I created a new user on my PC to see if that made a difference, and nothing seems to work. The only plug in that I remember adding was iZotope 3.0, which I use in Sound Forge 6, not AA.

When I start the program, I get an hourglass cursor, then nothing. If I watch the process in Task Manager, I can see "Audition.exe" appear, but it only stays a few seconds. "Adobelmsvc.exe" stays a bit longer.

Can anyone help?

If I call Adobe for help, what are my options? Will they charge me? What does it cost. Thanks again.

Why not uninstall and re-install the whole program?

Tried that. Did the "repair" re-install, then the real reinstall. Something is very odd there.

Yup. Reinstalling works every time for me. If your copy of 2.0 is corrupt, then it's time to contact Adobe. If your copy of 2.0 isn't corrupt, then maybe it's time to contact Adobe. I forget what it was about, but I contacted Adobe one time - on that occasion, they were efficient and I got what I wanted.

OK. Here's the deal for future folks who get this problem.

I tried the total unintsall with no luck at all. So, I called Adobe and got in the queue.

I spoke with a tech support guy named John who was THE MAN!! He had seen this problem before. Said it was "rare". He directed me to a place where I could download a .dll file that he was sure was corrupt.

YUP! That was it. As soon as I copied that .dll file into the AA directory, everything was fine. Even though I did a new install, somehow that .dll was baked.

So, there you have it. If you get this problem, call Adobe, and tell them you have the "Starting into Vapor" problem!! If they don't know what that is, ask for John.

So, that means that every time you reinstall 2.0 from your disk, that dll file will be fried, right? So you're gonna have to then install that dll file from another disk, right?

maybe it could have been a shared file and didnt get un-installed, which means it might not have been re-installed.

I'm willing to bet that's it. Maybe it would be wise to use system restore in the future before installing new software or something similar. I have had that problem before but not with Audition.
