Hie

I've got a Behringer mixer, Condenser Mic [with 9v vbattery for phantom power] and an audiophile 2496 soundcard, Iuse Adobe Audition 2.0 for recording.

Thing is i bought the mixer, which seems to be working perfectly, in-order to connect my Microphone headphones etc to the Audiophile soundcard.
The mic is working, everything is connected, i can hear myself talking when its on. However the software aint recordign though i chose Audiophile 2496 as teh sound card and all.

Is there a setting i'm supposed to have done on the souncard that i didn't, or things i should make sure i have done. Tried reading the book, but teh Patchby/ router and S/PDIF In things all confusing me

While i'm at it whats a S/PDIF?

May someone please help me, in telling me what in-oder for the software to start recording through teh soundcard and stuff. Cause the frequencny line is just strainght, the mic is working but nothign is being recorded.

Thank you for reading.

S/PDIF

Stands for

Sony,Phillips,DIgital,Interface

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

It's actualy Sony/Phillips Digital Interface Format, but same diff.
It's a format for transferring audio digitally, like ADAT Lightpipe, TDIF or AES/EBU
www.wikipedia.org will help you on you studies of those terms :)
And, whilst we're "educating", the "line" your talking about isn't indiciating the frequency, it is mearly showing the volume of the track at that point.

Now, what I think could be happening is taht you're not arming the tracks in audition. There's usually a "record enable" button on each track, an you need to have that on, otherwise you won't record anything.

You also need to make sure you're recording the right input from teh audiophile, this will usually be under the patchbay settings, in the ASIO inputs menu

Alternatively, it may be taht your master fader is down on the mixer. What outputs are you taking from the mixer to the audiophile? make sure that the fader for that output is up. Usually, your headphones and the output to the sound card will be rinning off different faders.

Beyond that, I can't really help, I don't use the audiophile nor audition, but there's a lot of peopel here that do.

What settings i'm i supposed to have set.

I re-read what the S/PDIF was all about, but currently thing is i don't need them. I have two cables from my mixer connected to the RCA L/R things at the back of my soundcard.
The mixer ( BEHRINGER UB502) and mic are working perfectly cause i can hear my self when the mic is connected, further more i'm not having any problems with sound.
However what i'm having a problem with is that, when i select record in Adobe audition, everything set on th audiophile soundcard, although the lights on my mixer go up and down showing audio is being input, the levels on adobe audition there up and down when you are singing or rapping are not. So maybe there is something i haven't done with the ound card settings or something.

thank you guys for replying, if anyone else has an idea please do help, i spent about 3hrs trying to get the recording but it aint working.

How is the mixer connected to the soundcard?
Is the output fader up on the mixer?
Does the far right mixer monitor on the audiophile (H/H in 1/2) ever show any levels?
Have you selected the right buss for inputs in audition?

How is the mixer connected to the soundcard?
By a profession dual cable. The cabble has to ends which fit into the mixer, and the souncard card RCA L/R inputs.
The back of my PC, with the twin cables [they are silver, one has a noteble red lining] connected to Audiophile PCI Soundcard:

Is the output fader up on the mixer?
On the anologe mixer YES. On adobe Audition, for the recording track No.

No.

Have you selected the right buss for inputs in audition?

I didn't seleect any Bus thingy in Adobe audition.
Could you also please tell me what a Bus is. On the mixer manual and product specification, it says my mixer is 2 bus

Have a look at this:
http://www.shagtech.com/images/PHOT0026.jpg

Are the cables noted by "A" the outputs to the soundcard?

If so, try moving them to "B".

Now, onto the soundcard:

Where you've got your cables plugged in, "A", is the output for the soundcard. Try moving them to "B".

You'll find it easier to record a signal if you actaully input something to your soundcard ;)

It appears this problem is a simple use error- you've patched it back to front. Incidentally, if you ever want to run the signal out of your computer to the mixer, this is exactly how you'd do it.

Don't worry about what I was saying about busses, but, seriously, RTFM (Read the Fucking manual). The busses I'm reffering to are the ones in audition- once again, I don't use that program so I can't help you on specifics there.
And read as much as you can. If you still don't understand, then come ask us. Once you switch those cables over you should be good to go.

Thanx alot, tested it, Problem fixed. I just need to buy another twin cable and everything is smooth.
Now that its fixed i feel like such a noob, me and a friend of mine actually spent about 3hrs trying to get it working
