Audio-Technica AT2020 or AT3035 vs AKG Perception 200; CAD drum mics

OK, I've got a couple of questions here. I'm looking into upgrading to a better condensor mic, but I'm not sure which one to get exactly. Depending on how much money I have, I'm looking at the audio-technica AT2020 and AT3035, which cost 100 and 200 dollars, respectively. So my first question is how big of a difference is there between the two and is it worth the extra 100 which could go towards a drum mic package, which I'm also looking for (which I'll talk about in a second). Also I was looking at the AKG Perception 200, which is 160 dollars. Has anyone had any experience with any of these mics and could possibly post a comparison? They are all very highly rated mics.

Another question I had, was that I was looking at drum mic packages, and I came upon CAD's standard drum packages. They have a 4-piece (3 tom/snare with clips, 1 bass) for 140, and a 6-piece (same but with 2 pencil overhead condensors) for 180.
I'm wondering if it's worth it to get the drum pack with the overheads in order to keep consistency and to be able to record the overhead in stereo, or to get the 4-piece and use the condensor mic from above to use as the overhead.

Thanks for any help,
David

Definately go for the 3035... I can attest to their greatness and bang for the buck. You should have absolutely no trouble finding them new on ebay for $135... I certainly didnt.

I've not heard the CAD kit, but in my experience CAD mics are hit and miss (I love the e300). I would look into an Audix drum mic package, or even the cheap Shure drum mic ;packages (the PG56 tom mics are great). Audix is probably your best value in this realm given a tight budget.

I have a pair of 2020's and a 3035. The 3035 is a lot better value IMO. I do like having a stereo pair of LDC mics in the 2020's though. OK medium diaphragm mics.

hm thanks for the advice guys, I may go ahead and spend the extra for the 3035. Does anyone know anything about the perception 200?

hm, unfortunately those audix packs look to be a bit out of budget. I may just wait a little longer to get a dedicated drum pack (in the meantime using the condensor, an sm57, and an sm58 in conjunction) if you think it will really be worth it in the end. Can anyone comment on whether to get a 6 pack with condensors, or just use the 3035 or whatever I get and get a 4 pack instead?

Sorry to bump, but if anyone knows anything else about this or the choice between an SP C1 or AT3035 I could really use the info guys.

Is there something preventing you from trying both of them? Both are decent mics a little on the bright side (probably the C1 moreso).

If you're using them for drums though, you might find the medium diaphragm 2020s could work better for you than an LDC (read the big sticky thread looking for transient response and you'll see why).

well I guess if I really wanted to try both of them I could buy one, test it out, maybe record my results, rma it, buy another, test it out, maybe record my results, compare both, and either keep the second one or rma it and buy the first one again - but that's a bit of work don't you think?

Also I wanted to use them for vocals as well, probably more than O/H's, but I'd still like to get a good o/h recording out of the mic.
