I think they are quite worth $400-$500. You can get em used for that I think. I got mine for free from a friend so I'm not complainin. 
There's a whole mess of praise for them on here as utility mics, but most tend to avoid them as vocal mics from what I understand. They are pretty transparent and clean. I have used them on vocals with sucess before after comparing it with other mics. Just buy one!

lol thats funny you mention the vocal thing though because thats what i want one for .. so maybe not the best choice for a good vocal mic?

I don't know what mics you have already, or if you plan on buying more mics after this one, but the 4050 should be on your list if you can afford it. In my experience, it is just a little "un-exciting" to my ears on vocals, but I have used it in the past in that manner. It's pretty flat, like a 414, so it doesn't really give much coloration for vocals, but that may be what you're after. Is this for your vocals only, or for a whole mess of different people's vocals?
