audio problem with Motu and Cakewalk Sonar

I am recording my first session with my Motu 2408mk2 and Cakewalk Sonar 3 using XP. As I was micing up the drums I noticed that the audio in my speakers is later than the actual attack of the drums. I plugged in a drum machine and checked it that way and the audio responce is about a half second later than when I strike the pad. I have no manual with my Motu (used) and I could really use some help. Thanks for your advice. Joe

1. You haven't allocated too many buffers
2. You're using asio drivers
3. Input Monitoring is turned off

How many buffers should be allocated? I have Asio drivers loaded but I think I'm using WDM. How do I monitor the input signal if I turn it off? Sorry for being naive about the process and thanks for your suggestions. I'll give them a try.

No, input monitoring is that little button on each track next to the mute, solo, record buttons. It lets you hear effects in real time while you play, but adds a slight delay. Turn it off, you can still monitor yourself.

Start off with the minimum number of buffers. If you get dropouts, clicks etc, increase the number until these go away

OK, I guess my real problem is this. I can only monitor the track armed for recording when the input echo button is on. Playback is fine but i can't monitor the incoming signal without input echo being on. I am using the main outs of my Motu for playback monitoring. What am I doing wrong? I guess I'll post this as a new thread.

Allright Bulls hit, I finally fiured out how to apply your advice and pushed the buffer to fast under mixing latency and that did it. Although in order to monitor the inputs I have to have the input echo turned on according to the Sonar help files. Thanks for your help. Joe

You should be able to monitor directly off of the MOTU with the included CueMix DSP software. It will only be the dry signal straight from the inputs (no live effects processing).
You would need to launch CueMix, adjust the gain and faders for the inputs you are using and select the main outputs for the master channel.
