I'm not sure if anyone out there deals with this kind of topic but I could sure use some SOUND advice. I'm looking to study audio production at a school in order to get my foot in the door. I was accepted at the Conservatory of Recording Arts in Phoenix and I wanted to know if attending this school is a wise decision. I want to learn from the best and I don't care abot time or money. Please give me expert advice, that is if anyone out there deals with this topic. Thanks,
Flyin

ok about the studying recording, its not always the best to take this up as a career. I can probably assure you that 99 percent of people who are into audio recording do nothave careers in it. I dont know too much about the recording conservatories, but i think you can get as much out of it but doing your own studies, and visiting places like these. However, a good source would be to study music technology in college, if you havent already went there. There are many colleges that offer degress in science in music engineering, and train many sucessful acoustic engineers, recording engineers, and anything else that has a need for solidly educated people. The benifits of college degree rathen then one of the music tech conservatories is immense. College will leave you outs; other jobs, more rounded focus. If you already have attended college, then i guess going to one of these places would be good, but if not, BY ALL MEANS look into it. Miami University has one of the most reknowned music tech schools. I was reading the job placement stats in their brochure and this school will produce some BIG TIME jobs in the music industry. Some others may include Drexel University in Philadelphia, NYU, and even Berklee. There are lots of possibilites. If all you would like to do is record forever, go for the Conservatory, but i think a college would more worth your while in the long run.

The funny thing is that I am graduating from Penn State in One Week. I know that I will not be able to do just recording and production when I get out of college but it would be my ideal career to just be able to make music and get paid for it. I'm not really big on the amount of money I make at a job, I just want to be satisfied with what I do and enjoy my job instead of hating every moment of it like so many people I know. I am a telecomm major at Penn State and that is a good field for me to be in right now, but my true love is not working with telecomm as much as music.

Yo Brian whose Flyin:

Why not write to a college and apply for a job as a "Teaching Assistant."

If accepted, you then will teach two freshman classes in your major and you can work on a degree in music/production etc., and you get paid for teaching and your tuition is waived. That's how I got my MA in English. No tuition is VERY NICE.

As I tell my students, find a job you like to do and life will be wonderful.

PS Music has been part of my life for more than 50 years and I still love learning more about music and recording and equipment, etc.
