I am setting up a computer for recording and it dosen't have iTunes ...just windows media player. I need a program to export my mixes to and be able to burn a CD when I compile several songs. I have always used iTunes to do this but a guy I know said to download audasity (spelling?) because it good and it's free.
Is anyone using it?
If so...is it suitable for what I want to use it for?

WMP will do that. Only issue is that it alphabetizes the tracks. I just place an 01, 02, etc on the song titles before burning, to set the track order right.

Oh ok. I had heard that WMP wasn't very good for that and the files would contain a lot of errors. I don't have much experience with it.

Hmm, I have never experienced an issue myself, but also do not burn CD's at maximum speed. I have heard that that can cause errors.

Are you just avoiding downloading Itunes on your recording PC?

Well I don't really want to put my recording computer on the net. I was going to download audasity to a file on my laptop, do a virus scan, and then burn it on a cd to install on my recording computer. I installed a fresh OS on the recording computer and really would rather not put it online.
That being said getting a program on it is going to be a pain in the ass so I was just wanting too make sure I was going with the right software. I have wavelab on a cd but it has a Trojan so I can't load it on there.

What arcaxis said. Audacity is good for some minor edits like normalizing your wavs. Then burn it to CD with CDBurnerXP.

I have a few recording laptops/desktops around the house, and they can have different software. One desktop has Audacity. I like it, but the big bummer for me is that editing is not done in real time. You have to stop the song, highlight the part you want to edit, pull down a menu, do the edit, and then play the song hoping you like the edit. Yes there is a preview button, but that just plays the section you highlighted, and no other instruments. So even simple EQing means I have to do the work, then play the song to hear if I like the 'new' EQ on whatever instrument, hoping it 'fits' the song. If not, 'undo' the edit, and try again. :(
Still, I like it. It works, even though it takes longer to edit, and it's free. However, Cubase LE let's me edit on the fly, while the song is playing, and usually comes free with anything you buy at your local music store. Watch out for gear you buy that includes Ableton Live Lite. :cursing:

I have neuendo and I can edit with it. I mainly just want a program to store finished songs and have the ability to burn a cd,,,like with iTunes. Maybe the windows media player will work for what I want.
I would like the ability to normalize the song levels to a consistent volume though.
