Hi,

I'm doing some research on home recording and was wondering about the Audacity statistics. Does anyone know how many times Audacity software has been downloaded? Or how many people use it?

I would like to get a sense of how large the amateur recording market is, so if you have any other ideas on how to figure this out, let me know.

Thank you!!

I'd say most people here have downloaded and used Audacity at one stage or another, and most now use something else.

Audacity has its uses, but it's very limited for actual recording. So I don't think a study into Audacity itself is going to tell you anything worth knowing as serious home recorders won't be using it to track or mix.

I use it when I'm A/B comparing a mix of mine with several pro mixes. So I guess that's A/B/C/D/... comparing, but whatever. It works pretty well for that. On a rare occasion I'll use its' frequency analyzer.

I use it pretty often, but never for tracking or mixing. Mostly just for trimming and normalizing tracks.

I use audacity for click track with crazy time signatures and alternating tempoes, since that adobe aren't smart enough to have a tempo ruler on adobe...

456 people around the globe have downloaded Audacity... 36 of them are HR members...:D
