OK, it's common knowledge that since MP3.com has implemented their new "Premium" service, that those of us trying to get along with their "Premium-NOT" service are suffering from, among other thing, EXTREMELY SLOW APPROVAL TIME, whatever the hell there is to "approve". But anyway, it is pretty evident, at least from what I'm seeing, that people are really pissed off at this. Has anybody let MP3.com know that there are a lot of people out here that are vigorously checking into any and every other MP3 posting site out there to put their music on, and bagging MP3? Well I did! Although I've been known to speak with a forked tongue on occasion around here, I tried my best simply to let them know that there's a storm brewing with there clientele, without loosing my F#CKING TEMPER. I haven't heard anything yet (although it's only been a couple of hours), but when and if I do hear something, I'll let you know what they had to say. Right now I'm getting ready to go pound sand, as that's the answer I expect from them, that is, if they ever get around to "approving" my e-mail.
 
Yeah, I sent them an email a couple of days ago.....no response yet....although my song did get approved 2 days later.

Dear MP3.com,

It seems to be more than just coincidence that the MUCH extended upload times in recent months correlates with the advent of your new "Preferred Member" services. I seriously doubt that a process that used to take a day or two is now really taking weeks (not even the 7-10 days you claim). I assume that you have employed this tactic to try and 'persuade' users to pay the $19.95/month fee in order to avoid the annoyance of having to wait 3, 4, 5 weeks to get a song up. I would like you to know that this tactic has, in
fact, had the completely opposite effect on myself and many other users with whom I have talked. Instead, we are all considering switching to services provided by other sites that are truly free and offer faster upload times and better service. Thanks for your time.....although I doubt you've even read this far....or at all.

Dear MP3.com, I just wanted to drop you a line to make you aware of something that's happening. I surf the web and drop in on quite a few discussion forums and bulletin boards on the subject of recording at home, and uploading original music onto various sites on the web, one getting a lot of attention lately being MP3.com. The attention isn't good. There's A LOT of people out there bagging MP3.com and going with other mp3 upload sites. The reason is that when you introduced your "premium" plan with it's related cost, You lost a lot of people. The cost isn't the main complaint though. It's the time that it takes NOW (as opposed to before you offered your "premium" service) that it takes for you guys to "approve" a song or edits, or whatever. People out there are really upset with the 10+ day approval time just because they're not "premium" service members, even though it still indicates on the MP3.com upload page that it will only take a couple of days for "approval". Just wanted to let you know that the "word on the web" is to forget about MP3.com, and go with a variety of other sites that offer the same services that you do, but get songs available for public listening as soon as they are uploaded. I believe that this is really what the people want, as I've yet to come across anybody who sticks up for the changes you've made, and gives reasons why MP3.com is worth the wait. Just wanted to let you know what's being spread around the net (quite rapidly I might add). I'm still patiently waiting for my songs to be approved, but the longer the wait, the more time I have to listen to the masses. Thanx for your ears(eyes). Thomas R. Neville
 
I'm liking the irony of this - the same thing that made mp3.com what it is (the internet) is now the thing that's eroding its popularity.
 
It's an interesting situation, I'm not sure if you guys know this, but MP3.com really needed to show a profit, so to do so, they are trying to stiff us all for $20 a month, which means if even 3% of thier users sign up for this, they stand to make over $14 million in a year in revenue.

A pretty clever tactic methinks, I don't think that our complaints will hold much water with them. A lot of internet companies seem to do this, that is provide a great service for free for a couple of years, then get you hooked and start charging you.

I think our only retort is to leave and go to iuma.com or any of the other resources out there.
 
Do you guys really think MP3.COM gives a rats ass what the users of the non-premium service think....Im not here defending them, dont get me wrong.....I just have a way of always seeing both sides of a coin....you probably gain more from them than they gain from you.....lets go back in time a few years, say 5-10....what if someone told you there was a place you could put a reasonable hi-fi version of your song where millions of people visit to listen to music and it would only cost you 20.00 month, and you would actually get paid for it (not much, but some) when people did listen to your song?.....what would you say?.....
 
Oh, and remember ....MP3.COM is a business, not a charity.....
 
Hey, even the Roman Empire fell because they were intoxicated by there success and lost sight of the initial vision (or lost vision of their sights, or something like that... ...or maybe they just got intoxicated and lost their sight and vision / I hate when that happens... ...Hail Caligula... ...Wow, I'm way off track here). I'm sure the site makes some dough from banner adds, links, etc. If they were "businessmen", as I'm sure somebody there is, this was probably planned from day one. Not that I'm opposed to somebody makin' a buck. $20 bucks probably isn't a bad deal for all that they may offer with their "premium" service, but at this point, I'm solely intersted in getting the songs approved and posted. The longer "aproval" time is really my only beef here. If the songs do something, then I'll most likely look a little closer into what else the "pay" part of the site has to offer.
 
Maybe look into one of the free web space sites (Fortune City,etc) to put songs up just until MP3.COM approves....I dont know if they planned this from day one, but Im sure the bastards are laughing it up right now.....The biggest mistake people can make is to go ahead and pay the $20 just for faster approval times...this would be giving them exactly what they want.....
 
mp3.com starting to charge after they get themselves established was probably inevitable, right? What this says is that they think that, despite alienating a portion of their patrons, they're important enough to internet music to become a 'premier' service. Okay, good luck boys, but I'm going to some other site.
