ok--homerec gurus--i need your ears and experience, since I'm a nobody still...

I am buying a mid-range priced mic for vocals for a male singer, and from my previous posts and information, i have narrowed it down to an AT 4060 or the Groove tubes Md1b.... I need to know how they compare in terms of tone... i honestly am looking for the darker of the two, if possible...

and yes, I know, I really should be trying these out myself, but im in a situation where all of the music stores near me either dont carry either mic, are out of stock of either one, and will not order until they have my money upfront, which, imo, is ridiculous, but hey, I'd probably be the same way if I were a pro audio store...

thanks alot.

Where can you get the GT?

Its available from their site, www.groovetubes.com.... I believe that there are other places on-line that you can order it from, but I havent investigated a whole lot into that...

I haven't heard the GT. But, unless it claims to be a non-tube Hi-Fi sound, then you really can't compare the two.

um... i dont see any rules saying you cant compare two mics because they are marketed as having the same sound... are they going to sound exactly the same? I dont think so....

GT is darker and more "colored" as some of you guys like to call it. Damn, I used that word, didn't I?

AT is more open and neutral for a tube mic.

thank you chessrock--I was honestly hoping I would get a response from you about this... I'll stick with the GT...

thanks guys.

Just curious, in that price range why aren't you also looking at the Lawson L47 FET, Soundelux U195, AEA R-84, Gefell M930? Or maybe you already have considered these and you just want a tube mic.
