"Well, now you know. And knowing is half the battle."

If you want to know why I always say... From The Sound Room only... Then read the last two paragraghs to "mutt" above (if you haven't already).

I'm telling you though... The reason why I'm costantly recommending Oktavas to be added to their list of considerations is because most who ask for a recommendation here have the key numbers of "$200-300US range" (for one) or "around $600-$800US" (for a stereo matched-pair), and maybe with key phrase "my first condenser mic", and maybe with "I won't be able to afford another for quite some time." in their question.

I'll recommend those brands I mentioned above (DPA, Manley, etc.) when they say they want to spend that kind of dough; I have yet seen anyone here who has said they want to though; myself included. I will though... And it's my Oktavas and other "budgetable mics" that will be on my clients' recordings to generate revenue to buy those caliber of mics.

Yes.. Peace to you as well.

And insert whatever you want into what's in those Oktava mics from The Sound Room ONLY!

Sorry man... Didn't mean to take over your post like that.

I myself nor anyone I know has ever used or tried the AT3525. But believe me... Don't let that stop you from keeping it in your list of considerations; especially since it's still a "newer-mic". In fact, it's probably a worthy mic considering it's usually the "not so great mics" which get recognized rather quickly when they first come-out. But what do I really know; can't really give my opinion when I haven't heard it.

Have you asked on the rec.audio.pro newsgroup yet. In fact, I go there right now to sniff around and see if I come-up with anything.

"I'll be back."

"I'm baack!"

Well interesting enough, there was quite a bit of info on it. I found-out it was appearence was announnced around April of '98 and is suppose to be an even lower price large diaphragm than the 4033.

One person said they didn't like for overheads because it didn't have enough high-end sizzle for him. Quite a few people said they like it for miking hi-hats and toms.

Quite a few people also said they liked it quite nicely as a $200US vocal mic. A few people said they prefer it over a C3000. One person said they heard a rumor that it is the exact same cap from the 4033. Another person said the 3525 cap isn't even a large diaphragm capsule. Lastly, one person said they own a C1000, a NT1, and a 3525. He prfered the NT1 and C1000 on acoustic guitar and the 3525 on vocals.

But keep in mind... For as many people who said they prefered the 3525 over another $200US large diaphragm mic, there was just as many who said they liked some other $200US large diaphragm mic to in their budget which they compared or used; but also, probably half of those said they had never used or heard the 3525.

I own an AT 3525 and I have used a Rode NT 1
The Rode was a little better on the High End, (More Sparkle) but The AT 3525 is great.. I love it for vocals and accoustic instruments (Guitar, Mandolin, Violin etc.) I am buying another AT 3525 so I'll have a stereo pair. It is a medium diaphram mic not as large as the Rode NT 1. In time as money permits I'll buy a pair of RODENTs also.

The AT also has a low end rolloff switch and a cool shock mount...well worth the money! The Rode shock mount will cost extra...$

Sincerely;

Dom Franco

Ive got a Rode NT1
and for the $$$$
youd have to spend a lot more to get a better
vocal mic
I cant even sing but with the Rode I can

Thank you everybody whom responded to my question. I ended up buying the Rodes NT1. Now that I've got it and my Art Tube, I get to have those fun, "I can't hear the $300 difference!!!!" sessions. But that's for another post.

SevenSamurai, I am pleased that through all this discussion, you ended up with the NT1. I recently did all the research I could (I didn't know about this forum) and ended up buying the NT1.

I was also swaying between the AT3525 and the NT1 ... bottom line ... the shock mount. Yup its kool, but they run about $50. Since the NT1 & AT3525 were about the same price, I'd rather have the extra $50 inside my mic!! :D

Let me know (eMail) your results. This is my new toy for the year and I've got an endless list of experiments between vocals, vocording, accoustic instruments (guitar & piano) and effects .... lots of fun. :)

Burak,

Cool, live working links to someone using the Rode NT1 -- and someone that admits to not being a pro at this at best! :-)

Okay, mind telling me me what type of sound card you're using, and whether you've got your vocals going through anything in particular? An Art Tube MP? Post-Digital editting of some sort? Any info would help, thanks. Mic positions? Hehheh

IF you look thru the "mp3 mixing clinic" forum on this site you can find guys who use the Rode NT-1.

I was particularly impressed with a track called "Facade" by JamesHE.
