I have an SP C3 already...

I am wondering is the AT 3035 should still be a mic that I should consider adding to my collection..

or if it is going to be similar to c1, c3, v67 etc..other things in the price range...

And I should just save up for a tube like ntk or t3?

I can tell you I have the AT 3035 and the V67. I find them to rather different from one another. Both nice mics I use for completly different situations.

zbert,
Just curious, what applications do you use each mic for? I, too, am considering the 4033.

Wes,

I can't be of much help about the 3035, but I DO like my NTK a LOT (in my limited experience). Its nice and smoo-oo-ooth...dare I say "warm?" It seems a few others (Buck, etc) have come found much joy in the NTK as well.

How do you like the C3? I was very seriously considering one just to have a multi pattern condenser around. Have you used it much other than vox?

thanks,

heylow

nah....only on vox really...

I truely like it a lot...but, I was almost immediately in the market for something else...if that tells you anything?

I want that elusive "warm"...even if it's all in my head. NTK or T should satisfy me.

In the future though, I will probably make use of the multi pattern.

Sorry for the delay in the answer. I like the AT for instruments...acoustic guitar, flute, mandolin, harmonica. I've been using the V67 mostly for my vocals. (my voice is kinda mid-rangey and that mic smooths it out) I had double carapl tunnel surgery about a month ago so the mics have not had much action lately.

warm?

forget the ntk

the 3035 is warm, but might not be the NEumann warm that I think you want.

Have you ever heard a c414b/uls? Those are some versatile mikes

Get the 4033, without a doubt!

Those things are nice sounding but BRIGHT IMHO. A friend just let me borrow one over the weekend and while I liked it.....I DID find it to be a little too bright. On the other hand I once did a vocal in a proper studio with one and it sounded great.

My girl says, "I suppose you want one of those now?!" And if it it tells you anything, my response was, "It was nice but certainly not at the top of my list of mics to get." Keep in mind this was a split second or so before I left her face print on the back of my hand for wising off.....of course I had no choice but to hit her again for her teeth connecting with my nuckle....that smarts and it made me quite angry. I told her better to dumb it down the next time she has something to say about shit she knows nothing about. She nodded in agreeance.....we walked on.

Oh well....
Dont let me get too far off topic,

What are you talking about dude?!

A) I told her I loved her:D

You're right though....next time I'll hit her with a mic before I post it here:D

HEY longwave......

Is it just me or are YOU the dude I JUST saw in a magazine at Barnes and Noble??? The studio makeover thing.....Sound On Sound maybe? Or....it was a british mag for sure....damn I can see it my head. It mentioned that song as well, I'm pretty sure....I told my girl, "I know who that guy iS!!"

Anyway, if it WAS you, I had been wanting to say "CONGRATS!"

If it wasnt, I now look like a nut...either way.....

Heylow,

Last thing in the world I want is to start a flame war with you or anyone else. I'm hardly a crusader for political correctness or censorship. You should feel free to express yourself however you wish...

That being said, I just hope you understand that a lot of folks are going to dismiss whatever valuable insights you might have to share, because they are delivered in tandem with your off-color remarks about gratuitously injuring your "girlfriend".

Obviously, we know it is just attempted humor. And I've probably offended many more people with my humor over the years than you have. Perhaps you are deliberately trying to offend as many people as possible for whatever reason. If so, fine. But if you weren't aware that you were perhaps crossing the line here, I'm just letting you know.

Kind of like if i was posting, and said: "I was so frustrated about my snare sound, that I took a break and sodomized my three year old daughter. After all, it's not like she had any positve contribution to the mix anyway!"

I suppose someone might find that amusing, but it probably doesn't say much for anyone who does.

Think about it, at least.

My girlfriend, and the art of taking a smack......

Well, Littledog....

Ok....I'm thinking about it....

And while I'm thinking, I'm thinking you'd better hang around a little longer and read a few more posts before you decide who's crossing lines. As it stands...I'd say I'm one of the more "normal" posters around here.

Do I think this justifies my "behaviour?" No.
Do I think I NEED to? To you? Hell no.
I find it funny that my girlfriend read it and thought it was a hilarious post and yet you act.... wellll..... you know..... "bitchy" about it.

That being said, I just hope you understand that a lot of folks are going to dismiss whatever valuable insights you might have to share, because they are delivered in tandem with your off-color remarks about gratuitously injuring your "girlfriend".

A) I doubt it.

B) I don't know what's funnier....the fact that you think so, or the idea of anyone around here thinking I got the valuable insight.

C) If someone's got a problem with me, they get their valuable insight somewhere else for all I care. I'm not paid to give out valuable insight to people who dont want it even if I had some.

D) Dont put my girlfriend in quotes....do you do this because you're gay and the word represents something more like "significant other" to you?

Obviously, we know it is just attempted humor. And I've probably offended many more people with my humor over the years than you have. Perhaps you are deliberately trying to offend as many people as possible for whatever reason. If so, fine. But if you weren't aware that you were perhaps crossing the line here, I'm just letting you know.

A) Which "WE" are you speaking for?

B) Dont talk down to me, fuckface. You may be someone's daddy but you sure as hell aint mine. Frankly if it werent for this quote, I would have been a little more civil.

Kind of like if i was posting, and said: "I was so frustrated about my snare sound, that I took a break and sodomized my three year old daughter. After all, it's not like she had any positve contribution to the mix anyway!"

Not kinda like it at all, fella. I certainly do not advocate spousal abuse but I DO know that sodomizing 3 year olds is whole different ballgame....did..your dad.....nevermind.

Last thing in the world I want is to start a flame war with you

Well, I'm half sorry to resort to this type of post, myself, but it kinda bugs me when guys with so few posts come into a forum and start playing moderator. You seem like a smart guy.....did you think that talking down to someone the way you did would honestly NOT start a flame war? Like I said...had you not spoken down to me and instead stated your case, I would have been a little more sympathetic to your feelings.

You need people skills, littledog. I may not have written the book on em, but at least you get what I think and not some buttery painted up version like the one you typed to me up there.

Let me know if this in anyway offends you. I dont want to shake the very foundation of anyones delicate sensibilties again.

heylow
a real dick apparently

...and strangely enough.....my first "offended flamer."

Hey littledog,

A quick primer. This ain't RO! There is no "line" to cross. Anything and everything is allowed/tolerated/winked at and, a lot of times, joined in on. When the shit hit the fan at RO I didn't tell you about this place 'cause I thought you already knew and chose to stay away. I posted once, somewhere, about how it was somewhat intimidating to join an established group and expose yourself to the slings and arrows of a more knowledgeable, and perhaps less tolerant of ignorance, user base. These guys don't pull any punches whatsoever. Check out my post count. I've been lurking for a while trying to get a handle on the way it works. I'm getting closer. As a matter of fact I have a couple "stupid-newbie" questions to post later. Just gotta pick the correct forum. Even though your title and post count say newbie I know better. You have a lot to share here. I hope you can adjust your filters and carry on.

Heylow - I will not defend littledog. Just wanted you to know he ain't no newbie. He was an active high-post contributor over at RO (Recording.org) before they...well never mind. That's a really long story.

Everybody else - Sorry I'm off topic.

Regards,

lou

Well, Heylow, sorry you misinterpreted my post.

You're certainly free to have your own style and I'm equally free to respond to it. If I came off as patronizing, it was only because I was trying to be sincere without coming across as an asshole. I actually was just "trying to state my case" as you said, but apparently I failed... must be those people skills you referred to. If it turns out that I'm the only person you ever offend around here, than you're certainly doing better than I am. Clearly, as Lou pointed out, as the new guy on the block, I may need to learn more about the subtleties around here.

Apparently there was not a single point in my remarks that you agree with, so no need to carry on the debate, as we have no common ground apparently. Sorry about the quotes around girlfriend. It was the wee hours of the morning after a long gig, and i wasn't trying to imply anything about your sexuality or lack of it. Probably I was only showing that I understood you really don't hit your girlfriend in the mouth with a mic or whatever, so perhaps you were referring to a fictional girlfriend. I'm certainly glad you've found a compatible soulmate with the same sense of humor.

In the end, internet personalities are what we want them to be... there is no objective reality. You could be a thirteen year old girl role-playing, or a psych student doing an experiment for all anyone knows. And the same goes for me. So in reality, it's quite difficult for me to get too upset about anything anyone would post, even with my "delicate" sensibilites.

I look forward to reading more of your and other's posts so I can acquire the communications skills to more effectively function around here. Seems like an interesting place.

Good to meet up with you here, Lou! How 'bout them Red Sox and Celtics!

I'm with Littledog on this one. If that was humor, it was awkward at best.

If any one has a problem with that....

they can eat a half-baked steaming corn-infested turd and die.

Sheesh, don't take it so hard, people (and Jet-rockker in particular).
Actually, I liked both jokes (from Heylow and Little Dog), especially Little Dog's part : "... After all, it's not like she had any positve contribution to the mix anyway!"

Sure, sodomy, incest and pedofilism in 1 act is VERY bad, but I think you're either hypocrite or abused yourself if you can't laugh about shit like that.
And hypocrite I mean, like, you probably WERE laughing when someone told an Osama-joke or something...

This is a recording forum, and people will make jokes about recording stuff. If you're on the other hand are looking for snuff movies, then indeed, you are to be disregarded!

good to know if I ever decide to quit the music biz, maybe i can get a job as a comedy writer...:D
