Assigning outputs to Firepod inputs in Sonar 4 PE

Just a bit of quick help - I've got the handle on assigning inputs for the Firepod for all the channels (input 1 to Firepod 1L; input 2 to Firepod 1R; input 3 to Firepod 3L; etc) given the nature of stereo busses.

Now, I'd like to know how to assign outputs as within Sonar the output busses are names 1,3,5,7,9 (for the stereo output busses, I presume).

So how do I go about assigning (for example) input 2 to output 2 on the back of the unit. I have no issues assigning the odd inputs to the odd outputs on the back.

I'm sure this is simple....just trying to avoid spending hours trying to figure out what's already known.

Thanks,
Jay

Woudn't it still just be a matter of Output 1 being 1L, and Output 2 being 1R, Output 3 = 3L, etc...?

One would think so...

but the program doesn't seem to give me those options.

For the inputs - the context menu shows:

1L....
1R....
1Stereo....
3L.....
3R......
3Stereo....
etc.

Options - Audio only shows the following for outputs:

Firepod 1L
Firepod 3L
Firepod 5L
etc.

Hope all that made sense....I'm just trying to find out how to assign the different channels to each side of the output busses.

Thanks,
Jay

Seems like the outputs should be comming up as stereo pairs. If they don't show up on the bus-out assignment tab, are they enabled under 'Options, 'Audio, 'Drivers?

Oops. Don't the tracks have to go to a bus first?

As mixit said, the outputs can only be assigned as stereo pairs. Usually they should show up in Sonar as Firepod 1/2, Firepod 3/4, etc., or some facsimile.

I'm not sure why yours appear as they do, but I imagine that functionally choosing Firepod 1L would get you the 1/2 stereo pair.

If you want track one to output its signal to the Firepod's output 1 only, you would have to pan the track hard left. Track 2 can be sent to Output 2 by panning it hard right. If the panning is center, the track signal will be sent to Outputs 1 and 2 equally.

No. Tracks can be assigned either to a Bus or directly to the sound card's outputs.

Typically I think most people use a Master Bus in order to see the track summing on the Bus meter, but it is not a requirement.

O.k.

Thanks,

I'll try that.

As for how they're showing up...I'm copying it down wrong.
