Art tube MP vs Studio V3?

How's the DMP3 compare to the ART MPA Gold, another affordable pre that gets recommended a lot around here (WhiteStrat brought it up in this thread, in fact)? It's obviously a bit cheaper, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything...

Taking my advice for a change...lol...its the nicest pre you can find for the same price area as the ART in question here...and its 2 channels...you wont miss the buzz sound with the toob stuff after you try one.


And for the MPA Gold...the only one I ever tried had the buzz too...so Im the wrong guy to ask maybe...that is if you like being able to hear a pre while a mic isnt plugged into it...its a pet peeve of mine.

Dude I have no buzz..no hum...Im sure we can go over this again and again..

I fancy this because
1. its obviously better quality,
2. it has VUs..I like VUs,
3. there's one on ebay with a broken gain switch, I can easily repair, going cheap..

but not because of hum or noise from the Project...which there is none..unless you want some of course..but I dont..so there isnt

BTW the first person to suggest this to me was not you but Master in another thread...so always the bridesmaid huh dazza?

Nope I gave links to AudioBuddys...DMP2...and DMP3 right here in this thread.
that being said...Id rather buy one cheap because of a broken VU...your DAW should allready have one...I tend to not be too crazy about them since I have to think that companys cut a corner somewhere to add them.

I didn't read your links..Master Recording suggested one weeks ago during our first round of arguments on this subject, not you, that's when my interest was perked...but instead I bought Overloud and a 1080

apart from that I don't really need one..what Ive got meets my needs and expectations...but I always like fixers...gives me something to potter with

Not that I wouldn't listen to your advice Darrin, I even find myself agreeing with you in many threads, and you are definitely more experienced when it comes to recording, especially professionally...it's your attitude I have a problem with, not so much the information you are trying to get across..

Temper that and we'll be fine..don't and "yesterday" is where we're going to end up most of the time

My attitude has to do with a set of rules that I have for myself that has served me well...Ive never really struck down a product I hadnt had personal experience with...and Ill allways offer an alternitive for the same money if there is one.

Yes you have..the ART Project..you continue you to yet you have never used it..the product you used was one third of the price and ten year old technology..

I have NEVER said the product you slated, the ART MP, was any good..I have never used it how can I comment on it from personal experience?

so there's a big difference, I know you cant see that..so we'll continue to bump heads..its doesn't bother me either way

Hey, you're not being an asshole. Cool, way to go! :D

Tone counts for so much though, is the thing. What better example do you need than kcearl was way more willing to listen to a recommendation from Chili than the same recommendation from you, simply because his was polite, friendly, and helpful, whereas yours was dismissive and a little condescending?

I'm sure you have valuable experience to offer, man, but if you're combative about that and hostile when people disagree with you, no one is going to want to listen to you. :)

EDIT - and to be clear, I'm not trying to be a jerk myself by saying this, but just trying to convey one very valuable observation I've made in my experience, that how you carry yourself often matters as much if not more than what you have to say. Think of it as selling your opinions - people are presented with a lot of different opinions on a message board. If you put a little effort into making your opinions more attractive to consider, then in turn more people will be likely to consider them.

I've been trying to save for m-audio octane pres. I have an m-audio delta 1010 with break out box that has served me well since 2003. And a m-audio audiophile 24/96 that I've had for 10 years with n/p's. And I've switched cpu's many times, hauled them around everywhere, and even dropped them hard on the ground. I am an m-audio fan.
 
I sold one of those to Guitar Center in Overland Park Kansas...it was going for $79 last time I checked...and I put a Mullard 12ax7 in it...you can get the exact one at zero postage if you have a guitar center nearby and it is till there.

I wasnt a big fan of it...But YMMV.
 
Okay, after a small detour, I'm hoping this thread is back on track. With all the drama behind us, it'll probably lose interest and fade into Post-Oblivion. Get it?? "Post" oblivion??? ehh, okay, I won't quit my day job... :o
 
I've got a few that we've mentioned:

ART Tube MP - sounds awful.

ART Digital MPA (like MPA Gold, but with A/D conversion) - love it - I can get nice smoky sounds out of it - I think of it as "colored"

DMP3 - I gave it away here a while back, but it was very nice and clean - I got two DMP2s (no VU meter) which sound similar, and so didn't need it any more. The VU meter on the DMP3 isn't very helpful IMO.
 
they still go for about $150+ on ebay..i was looking at one before...
