Ive got an art tube mp preamp...of which specific variety im not entirely sure. Its got regular looking quarter inch ins and outs as well as the three pronged mic style ins and outs....

so where is the best in and out to connect my shure sm 58 mic to my delta 66 soundcard....

thanks very much

welll................................

I reckon that the 'best' way to hook it up would be to get yourself an XLR equipped microphone cable and hook up the sm58 to the XLR in (that there 3-pronged 'mic style' plug). Then I would get a cable that has an XLR on one end and a 1/4" balanced plug on the other....plug the XLR end into the Tube MP out and the 1/4" into your Delta66 breakout box....

If you're against the idea above:
keep the mic cable plugged in as above, and then -
you could also get a cable with 2 1/4" ends and plug one of each into the TubeMP out and Delta66 in...that would be the 'unbalanced' varitey of connecting the 2...which, technically, would be less-quiet than the 'balanced' variety (see paragraph above)....but it really shouldn't matter unless your running a long cable between the preamp and Delta66

does that make sense??

a synopsis:
- microphone XLR to TubeMP XLRin
and one of two:
- unbalanced connection (1/4" TubeMP out to 1/4" Delta66in) - good
- balanced connection (XLR TubeMP out to 1/4" Delta66in) - better

peace

thanks for the reply...right now i am using the quarter inch variety....i think ill go for the xlr s....also using a much shorter cable than the ridiculously long one i bought previously.....

FYI you can run the (balanced) 3wire XLR cables and 3 wire stereo 1/4" cables much farther than (unbalanced) 2 wire cables.

Try to keep your unbalanced cables under 10' or better because they pick up a lot of interference and are common sources of buzzes and hums in your setup.
