.arr file trouble

This ME os seems to have settled down some. I've actually been using FreeFilter without lock-ups etc. CuBase still won't open or save .arr files. It'll open other files to the last "arrangement" I was working with, but, responds with " a serious problem has occurred" message if I try to open or save .arr files. Any suggestions? Thanks.

What version of Cubase are you using?

Here is a bug fix that was made in version 5.0 R6 that sounds like your problem:
A bug was fixed that meant that when saving files as arrangements (*.ARR) and reloading them could crash the computer as the wave image files were checked and updated. Saving as song files (*.ALL) were not effected. This bug was a side-effect of a change in R5 PB4
So if you are using a version prior to R5 PB4, maybe this isn't your problem. But I'd get R6 anyway.

Great to hear from you JimH. I've been using r5--VST32. I don't know what you mean by PB4--what is it? I believe the problem started while using r4. I did read the "what's new in r6" before I downloaded it. I installed it the other day, but, I haven't tried to open one of the few .arr files I have left. I'll give it a try shortly and let you know what happens. I keep posting here, hoping that someone has had the same problem--and that they found a fix. Steinberg says it sounds like a hardware-compatability problem. My sound-card is a SoundMax (full- duplex), but, I use a MOTU828. It is capable of 0ms latentcy, but, I use it at 23ms. The only other added hardware is a MOTU MIDI-FLYER to sync-up the AlesisSR16 drum-machine, and I have no reason (symptoms) to suspect that it is causing my .arr file problem. Thanks again. By the way, what do you use CuBase for?--what instrument(s) do you play? If you get a minute, tell me about your set-up.

PB4 stands for public beta 4. Steinberg releases these bug-fix versions for people to try out. Once it's confirmed to be reasonably stable, they release it as an official update. They have a doc on their ftp site that explains it. So the progression for the R5 update was something like R5 PB2--> R5 PB3-->R5 PB4--> R5, with the last one being the official R5. Unless I'm having a particular problem, I usually avoid the public betas and wait for the official updates.

I just use Cubase for home/hobby messing around. I'm primarily a keyboard player, although I can eek out a couple of songs on acoustic guitar if forced at gunpoint. I've got a Kurzweil PC88mx and K2000S, Korg DSS-1 and EX-8000, Roland R8, Yamaha TX81Z, Minimoog, Mackie 1604 VLZ ….and other stuff.

happy day!....r6 has apparently fixed my .arr file woes....I clicked on an arrangement file and it opened just like it's supposed to...finally, no more "serious problem has occured" messages....
hey JimH, looking at the list of your gear, I'd say you have yourself much more than a hobby.....thanks for your input.
