Argh! Pretty urgent question!

If the DMP3 takes 9VAC, polarity of the wire going into the DMP3 doesn't make any difference. It only matters with DC.

Oops, I didn't notice it was AC. You still have to make sure to get the right size plug to fit the jack in the DMP3, as they make them in a multitude of sizes.

That's why I would buy a 240 to 110 universal converter - you can plug any US wall wart or other 110 - 120V equipment into it (assuming it's power rating is adequate, and its operation is not dependent on 60 Hz versus 50 Hz.)

:( It's so damn confusing. There seems to be a lot of assumption going on, it's impossible to be sure about it. Is there any way that I can find out whether it is the correct power rating, and not dependant on that frequency?

Sorry,
Thanks

My gut feeling is all you have to do is get a wall-wart that's meant to handle the voltage you're plugging it in to. I don't believe the frequency has anything to do with it in this case.

So either get a Franzus voltage convertor, and use the USA plug and wall-wart with that, or just buy a UK wall-wart that outputs 9v and 1,000milliamps. Should be no worries at all.

What billisa said. I think you can stop worrying, Canopus. It's do-able, and it's not expensive.-Richie

I'm neurotic, I wont be able to stop worrying until I've got it working :)

Check your local Radio Shack or equivalent. They always sell generic wall warts. When you see one, and that is can be had for a few pounds, no worries.

I've had no luck searching. We don't really have big Radio Shack-like stores in the UK, and I can't find ANYTHING on the net that has the right specifications.

Cheers Mark, there's one pretty near (I didn't know about em). I'll give em a bell and see if they have anything. Thanks

BTW, when you're looking for a wall wart, "1000 Milliamps" is the same thing as "1 Amp". (Just as "5280 Feet" is the same as "1 Mile".) Actually, any AC adaptor from 800 Milliamps to 1200 Milliamps will probably work just fine for the DMP3.

If the connector that plugs into the DMP3 is the wrong size, just cut it off and get the right size from a Radio Shack or similar store.

And make sure the plus and minus is wired correctly for the DMP3 on whatever wall wart you use. ;)

Plus and minus? Polarity of electricity? Now you're just getting too technical for me!! :D

Hmmm.... It's electron flow, not neutrons :D Still, I can't see how AC electricity HAS polarity.... if it's not in a circuit surely there isn't a + and - end?

The wall wart coverts AC to DC... make sure you use the correct polarity for your DMP3.
