Hello recording guru's, im in need of some help, probably will be something so simple for you guys out there, but its slowly driving me crazy!!

Basically ive been saving up for a set up at home for ages and ive finally saved up enough cash and bought it. As follows:

Mac G5
Mackie 1402 VLZ mixer
M Audio Delta 1010 soundcard
M Audio BX5 speakers
Yamaha midi keyboard

Right, so i have the equipment, but when it comes to setting it all up im lost! So far i think i have everything fitted correctly, the only thing i dont understand is the soundcard, mixer and monitors. i have a 8 way loom cables running from my mixer into the output on my Delta 1010. I run my monitors through the "MAIN OUT" on the desk using high quality TRS cables. Ive installed the driver for the soundcard, and when i look at the signal on my screen when running the test for the soundcard i can see signal. but why, oh WHY can i not hear anything? My speakers are turned on, and yes...theyre turned up!

Please oh PLEASE someone help me!!

Thanks guys and gals! :o

I'm no recording guru, but I think you might need an amplifier. You connect it to the outs of the soundcard and plug your monitors into the amp.

Hi Thunder, thanks for replying, I wouldnt think you need an amp.... It doesnt say anything about needing one? but obviously i have no clue or i wouldnt be posting on here. Before i go out and buy a new amp... Anyone got any suggestions?

Please? :(

Is there a "monitor out" on your mixer?

EDIT: I just looked at the manual for your mixer, and you have to connect your monitors to the "Control room out". The diagram shows an amplifier, but you may not have to use it.

Theres:

MAIN OUT
CONTROL ROOM

Ive tried both but none seem to work.. :(

See my post above. It looks like you will need a power amp...

no, you don't need an amp for the monitors...the BX5s are active
try plugging the outs of the 1010 directly into your speaker to see if it's maybe a mixer problem. try plugging the output into headphones to see if it's a Speaker issue.

Oops! I missed that.... :o
He's right. And look at how you configured the mixer. If you plug into the contro room outs and are still not getting sound, you may have something not set right. dig into the manual. There is a section there for monitoring. It will tell you how to set it up....

Hi guys, thanks for the replies,

Ok, i plugged my monitors directly into the outputs on the first and second channel of the delta 1010. and they worked!!

Hence the "worked"..They did work, but then went all fuzzy and horrible and now i cant hear anything over the fuzzy hissing sound coming from them!! this happened to them last time with my soundcard, and i ended up sending back the soundcard, what can it be? Why are they hissing? Why does this always happen to me!?! :(
