Are there any SONAR MIDI port experts here?

Hi-
This is my current setup:

AW4416 MTC_OUT----->MIDISPORT IN-B
AW4416 MIDI_IN------->MIDISPORT OUT-B

MIDISPORT IN-A----->SONAR OUT-A (set in options>midi devices)
MIDISPORT OUT A----->SONAR IN-A

The way it is connected, I have the AW4416 in MTC SYNC:MASTER and MMC:SLAVE. And I have SONAR CLK set to SMPTE/MTC. If I press PLAY on the AW4416, then it automatically starts SONAR sequencer which in turn sequences the MOTIF.

What I am trying to do is the opposite. Control AW4416 from SONAR. I have done various things by looking at the manual- but no luck!

Question is:
How can I control the AW4416 from SONAR?
I have tried on SONAR>project>midi out> MMC box checked with device ID=1(i have also set the AW4416 device ID to 1). I have also set the CLK in project>clock> to SMPTE, MIDI and internal. But I can't seem to start AW4416 from SONAR.

Any advise and trick is apreciated.

Thanks.

I think you must be thinking that the MIDI messages get merged somehow along the way. They don't -- there are two discrete ports.

It looks to me like the AW4416 gets no MIDI messages because nothing is coming in its MIDI In. And SONAR is probably ignoring the timecode from the MTC Out port, it's using the timecode from the MIDI messages on Port A.

You don't need to semd the MIDI Time Code through a separate port, it's inherent in the MIDI message stream.

Disregarding the MIDI interface, you have only two MIDI devices, the computer running SONAR and the AW4416. Why are you using both the A and B ports?

Try SONAR MIDI Out -> MIDISPORT A Out -> AW4416 In
SONAR MIDI In <- MIDISPORT A In <- AW4416 Out

Thanks!
I got the sucker to work. Seems like I had not highlighted the Output ports in Options>MIDI devices. After highlighting it, I can control both ways now.

The reason I have both ports A and B is that at times I do control SONAR from MOTIF to record drum tracks.

Also. the AW4416 manual states that I have to have both ports connected- MIDI IN and MTC OUT in order for a sequencer to be able to control the AW4416.
