im looking for a cheap mic, i would rather buy like some new effects or a mixer of someting (obviousy with more money) but i was wondering how good they are, i dont even have a mic at the moment and would like to record vocals first and then possibly instrument later, is the instrument one any good for acoustic guitar and guitar amps all distorted.

thank you they are only £35 over here (hey wit ha free t shirt!!!!) which seems good value if they are ok.

thanks for any help

I heard that the AT's bark model is worse than it's bite.
(sorry- couldn't resist)

Yeh i'm looking to pic up one of the 'bites' microphones as they compare them to the sm57. It works out to be $35 AUD... much cheaper than paying $130 AUD for a sm57.

By the way, does anyone know where most sm57's are made? Apparently the ones made in Mexico a poor quality??

All 57s are now made in Mexico, and this thread is FIVE YEARS OLD!

As far as quality, well I don't know when they moved production, but I've used 57s with production dates from 1997 forward, and they all sounded the same and had that legendary 57 reliability. Now I have an old US-made 545, which sounds very different than the 57s, but neither of those are as good as an MD421 or Beyer M88.

Haha talk about resurrecting the dead! This is what happens when you do a search instead of creating a new thread i guess. i didn't look at the date.

I ordered myself one of those Audio Technica Bite Mic's last night, lets hope they do okay. *fingers crossed*

IMHO, the "Bark" mics are crap. I have one to use as a talk-back mic and I only bought it because it was so cheap and it had an "on-off" switch. Sounds like @ss on anything I've tried it on, but it works as a talk-back mic.

An opinion on them finally... I've been waiting for FIVE years

FIVE years!! wow.. I was a little surpised to get an email through telling me I had a reply. It brings back the days when all I wanted to do was to get a little bit of live audio into the computer on any old cheap mic... now I'm more likely to spending my time using Pro Tools HD rigs and vast Neve desks with large numbers microphones with silly mortgage-your-house price tags! Thats progress...

haha that really is nice to hear that you've come such a long way!

hopefully in 5 years time i'll have alot of decent stuff too?? hopefully.........
