Are MXL603s, JM 27 & ADK SC-1 the same mics?

I've been really trying hard to find a dealer in the UK who stocks MXL603s and.....well, it's tough going , but I found some.
In the process of shopping around, though, I came across a couple of other mics which look pretty much the same to me -

The Joe Meek JM27 & The ADK SC-1

Anyone have a good story to tell about these?

The JM is the same price as the Marshall, but the ADK is much cheaper.

The JM27 is very similar, but not exactly the same. Built in the same factory with the same parts and very similar design, but not the same.

As for the ADK, I have no idea. Where have you seen it? I'd love to get a pair if they're similar.

They've got them at Turnkey for £55.99 each - which is £40 cheaper than the MXL603 or the JM27.

I doubt it. I've used the SE 1 small condenser which looks just like these three but it really sucks. However, the MXL603 gets high marks. Same body and same factory do not mean the same mic apparently.

Well, no MXLs in the UK for about 6 months I'm told. Some problems with Yamaha , who handle distribution for them here.
So i opted for a pair of ADK SC-1s....we'll see.
Thanks for all the good input on this and my related threads.

Incidentally, Steve, what was it about the SC1s that really sucked - I assume you did mean them & that SE1 was a typo?

And the GXL-1200 from CAD's overseas division.

They're all basically the same mic from the same plant. The 603 isn't made by Feilo anymore, but I don't think they really changed the design, from what I heard.

I love the 603s by the way.

I talked with another reviewer about this the other night. Yes, these mics all look alike. I told him the 603 and the Feilo SE1 could not possibly be the same mic. He agreed. There must be something different with one or more components.

http://www.feilo-china.com/feilo_1m/products/cr1-11.htm is the link for the Feilo SE1.

You guys shouldn't assume that just because they originate from the same factory or that because someone told you so that these are the same mics. I've never been one to want to get deep into these Chinese mic lines due to these issues.

I'd rather push you all to the Oktava MK012 as they are probably the best all around pair of budget small condensers.

It is my understanding that the Joe Meek JM27 & the ADK SC1 are made at the Felio factory in China... and are similar. And the Marshall Electronic MXL603S (which use to be made at Felio) is now made at the Marshall Electronic factory in China... and it's similar to the Felio versons except the grill is different, and I'm not sure but maybe some mods.

I'd rather have a pair of Oktavas too, or the 603s, but they're either too expensive or just unavailable over here.
Which is why I've gone for the SC1s.
I'm pretty sure I can make them sound good anyways - a lot of you guys hate the AKG c1000s, but I've used it on all my recordings up to now & got a superb sound.
(check out the dls for Dave Keegan on my website)
So much depends on HOW you play - as much as mic quality & placement are important too - and the type of instrument you're miking up too.
You know all this , I'm sure.
Nothing seems to polarise people like mics though, eh?
The other night my band were recording drums: I got down early doors, set up the drummers' kit, spent about 2 hours miking it up & testing it all till we were happy. It sounded great.
Then the drummer rolls up & proceeds to dismantle all the mics, swap them all around, completely rearrange his kit so we had to start all over again.
I had been using my ears to get a good sound.
He is studying Sound Recording at college & was following the rules.

You're not David Keegan then?

Is he the bloke I think he is?

Your SC1 should sound great on acoustic instruments and etc.
Cool - hope so! I'll keep you posted.
We just got a publishing advance through to record our first album, so we're spending it wisely ( and thriftily)
Of course, when it's a global monster hit we'll get some U-87s :)
