Are mexican strats total crap.....

My next "fun purchase" is going to be the Godin Glissanter - 11-string fretless nylon-string.... plays unbelievably well and the sound is very cool.... not too pricey either - 'bout a grand Cdn....!

this thread was about MIM Strats vs. MIA Strats, but if we wanna introduce other brands :

my $150 Yamaha Pacifica can stand next to any MIM Strats in tone and feel.....

and if I had $400 to spend i wouldnt be looking at a Fender....Schecter yes.....

The argument was getting boring....

...so a little hi-jacking was in order!

the yamahas are great bangs for the buck (i finally got to play one recently). i was impressed. i have a electra les paul style guitar that is very good...it weighs a ton (most of the paul "copies" don't have the weight)...i would put it up against my les paul custom anyday (sold that paul...should have kept it cause i got hosed on that sale..what can i say i needed the money). i had a electra in the late 70's and i hated it...total peice of shit...but this one is REALLY nice. got it for less that $200 bucks too (the owner of that small music store tryed to weasal out of that sale cause he wanted to keep it for himself...but the salesman had already quoted me a price)

you can get really good guitars for bargin basement prices, but, on cheap guitars like "electra's" the quality control seems to be light years difference from one guitar to the next. you just have to look till you find the diamond in the ruff. but, when you find it you got a hell of a deal.

(maybe the same with mex strats...i got a good one...others may suck.)

As much as people here trash Guitar Center all the time, I have to say that I love my local store. Not because of the helpful sales staff (yeah right) or anything like that.

It's because I think they have a manager that's on drugs. Every once in a while they blow stuff out at ridiculous prices. My main guitar right now (I have a new one that I am building on order. :) ) is a Big Apple Strat. (The current model - exactly the same - is the American Double Fat Strat: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...98302324/search/g=guitar/detail/base_id/44513 )

I walked out the door with it for $500, including taxes and a Fender Tolex case. I also walked out with a Hendrix signature model the same day for $500, with a tweed Fender case. I sold the Hendrix on ebay. Total cost for my strat: $300 (after profit from the other guitar - lol).

I love that story. :)

(And just to chime in, I like my guitar than any Mexican strat I've played so far. But, I also like it more than just about any American strat I've played, too. That includes Custom Shops.)

damn im tired..played music last night and those fuckers passed the hat 2 times. finally i held my strat up and tore half the strings off of it and said "thats it...my fuckin' strings are broke...we can't play anymore...thanks people"

i can't even talk this morning...damn hip hop shit...just kills my voice...i hate it (but i can do it). have to do that to draw the young ladies (who in turn draw the men). they get to hear thier hip hop...but they have to listen to some SRV and classic rock too...cause if i can't play some of the stuff i want to play im going to retire to the studio damnit.

But...for the price of a "real" Strat you could get five or six hand-made custom jobs. So yeah...

Wait, isn't tone all in your fingers? Then why is this conversation taking place?

The tone IS in your fingers, but you don't want to have to break your fuckin' hand while makin' the tone come out!!!!

;) :D

Custom hand jobs? What?

One other thing - I have yet to meet a guitar that didn't play better once I got it home and set it up myself. Both those strats I mentioned in the last post played pretty poorly at the store. (The Big Apple played ok, actually, but the Hendrix model played like crap - which probably explains why it was sitting there marked down 70% off retail. )

And I do think you just need to find the right one. Even with PRS's and other guitars that supposedly "are all great."

If you want a $2000 strat, check out Callaham, but be prepared to wait about 2 years.

Thank you.

Seriously, some people think it's a sin to want a nice playing guitar...

I seriously doubt they're as bad as what I saw....

Maybe the Mexicans just send all of the crappy Strats to Canada. :D

I only guitar that I have ever owned that didn't play better after being set up by me is my D41. And thats only because it was set up so nicely from the factory that I hven't felt a need to touch it in any way.

I do think that some guitars force you to work at your playing even if they are expensive. My 52 RI Tele is a mother to play, but its all worth it in the end. I am installing a Tele Texas Special in the bridge right now.

there may be a jem in that stack of squier standards.....there may be a jem in that stack of MIM strats....and in that MIA pile......the serious guys in the guitar shops know the score, ask them and play them all. If it sings like a f**kin bird, buy it, and don't look at the damn headstock to see where it was made.

i sold a MIA 40th ann. strat a while back....it looked great but it sounded like crap, but i like my MIM strat. it can't pretend to be the shit up against my MM Axis and Silouette, but who really cares. it sounds like a strat to me.

:D thats funny!

I have three Strats...two amer and one mim. They are all great. My mim is NOT a p.o.s. This 'debate' is kinda silly... try a mim and if you like it...there ya go. btw, the consensus over at the Fender forums (someone linked earlier) TO ME seems that the mim are just fine...and EVEN the newer strats are better than the vintage stuff...mim included. To me, people that say they can tell the difference a mile away have a problem of another kind. I'd sure like to hear some "quality" work that they put out.

here is an example of my mim strat. Nothing to jump up and down about, but something recent. Infact I just owned the strat for about a weekend, recorded this...and played it "as is" right off the dealer wall. Admittedly, it is NOT a strat sound however!!!...at least to me... just a fine feeling guitar I used.

Gentlemen, gentlemen...for the record, I never once said the mex strats were junk, only that the MIA I own felt more substantial than my friends MIM. They all sound pretty much the same. I have guys come in to record all the time with Squires for christ sake and they ALL SOUND THE SAME. You go to position 2 or 4 and they have that "strat" sound. If your happy, I'm happy. I had a guy just about a month ago (the Heep cover band) and the guitar player had a REAL 59 strat not a reissue and I thought it would've made a nifty canoe paddle. Big deal. Now I'm all upset and I'm gonna have to smoke another bowl to calm down. I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY NOW. Where did I put that lighter (and it's a Bic, not a Zippo).:D :D :D

track...I had no intentions of my comments being DIRECTLY pointed in your direction. Just towards the general snobbery that seems to surface with the typical 'trashing' kinda comments.

Your music kicks too much booty anywazzz...!!!
