are BOSS daisy chain (TU-2, LS-2) good for powering pedals?

I want to invest in the biss tuner that tunes your guitar at the same time as powering up like 7 pedals, but are these worth it?

Do they create hum or white noise? also do they degrade your tone?

anyone whod know about this, please please please, give me your input!

They don't power anything, they just use a daisy chain cable to send the power from the 9V in to 9V out. And they don't add any noise or hum to the power

There is nothing wrong with them, so if you need a tuner it's an option. A small warning: You will have to make sure that all you pedals use the same type of power connector and the same wiring as the Boss pedals do, however.

If you don't need a tuner, get a dedicated multi-output powersupply instead. Greater flexibility.

ok in the descritption it says it doubles as a power supply,

also i use to own the PSM1 (i believe it was called that)
its just like the TU-2 and LS-1, and it powered 7 pedals,

but then i here uts not a power supply? could sumone clarify please?
 
I depends on what you mean with "power supply", and it may be that I'm using the word in an un-orthodox way. :)

The PSM-5 (which I think you mean), TU-2 or LS-1 does not generate the 9V, instead this is done by a standard wall-wart. This means that if you plug in a shitty 9V adapter in the PSM-5, you will get shitty 9V out, and all your pedals will suddently be related to sir Humalot. :)

A power supply is to me something that generates, converts or conditions the power. These units don't do that, they only have one daisy chain output.
I wouldn't call the socket in the wall a power supply either. It's the generators at the electrical company that are the power supplies. :) But if you would call wall sockets "power supplies" then these box units can also be called power supplies.

sorry, im still a lil confused cuz you say one thing and boss says another, but im just trying to get any input i can on this for a cheap BUT effective way to power my pedals, and since tone is a huge deal to me, i wanna know how this pedal will affect mine, :)
 
For my live guitar rig, I find that the Voodoo Pedal Power is THE way to go...eliminates the extreme DC loading caused by some daisy chain systems, as each output has its own filtering, etc. It also can power either ACA or PSA Boss-style pedals, DOD, 18V, whatever....I use the Voodoo powered board both live and in the studio, so it really is whisper quiet.

For a real kick you may look at the VHT buffer gizmo...not only powers pedals but buffers the guitar signal with a 12AX7 and offers more than one audio output. Friends who have them rave about them, and have gotten so addicted they won't even run to the 7-11 without one....

Well, as I said, it might be my use of the word that is unusual. Therefore I have explained in detail obove how it works, and why I personally wouldn't call it a power supply.

No. Nothing. Zilch. Nada. All it does is daisychain the 9V.

And then, once again (sorry if I sound repetetive):
If you need a tuner and all your pedals have the same type of 9V input as Boss pedals ( 5.5 barrel connectors, center negative ) then the TU-1 is one was to get rid of all the separate wall warts/batteries.

Or if you need a line selector and all your pedals have the Boox type of 9V in, the LS-1 is probably a nice Line selector.

But if all you want to do is to get one unified powersupply for all your pedals, I still think you should get a dedicated power supply with multiple outs. Then you can add any type of pedal with any type of 9V in. (I have one that is center positive, and one that use a 3.5 mm connector, so I would not be able to use the cable that comes with the TU-2, as an example.)

And again: Make sure whatever power supply you get are capable of powering all your current pedals with margin for future pedals.

Live is one thing. Playing out I used a chain made by Ibanez for my pedals. For recording, I've never found a power supply quieter than a 9 volt battery. That Voodoo thing sounds interesting though.
