are 24 tracks too much for acid to handle?

acid 4.0 on my computer starts to give me problems when i reach about 24 tracks with about 3 minutes of recorded analog information on each track. i have an HP computer with a 2.5gig processor, 80 gig harddrive, and 512 ddr memory running on windows xp home. is there a setting i have to change in order for it to be able to handle more tracks, or is it that i need more memory?

No, you don't need to install more RAM.

It can handle 24 tracks.

It seems to me, that Acid 4.0 will get sluggish and even "freeze-up" when you run that many tracks that contain a lot of chopped samples.

Once I have the song arranged and I have chosen my pattern of sequences. I render each track to its own track.

Example.....

I'll mix the 808 to its own track, then kick1 to its own track, then kick2 to its own track, then the snare, etc.....

At that point, Acid seems to run smoothly again.

Yeah, I second Spin... I have had no problems with 24 tracks.
Is your hard drive 7200rpm? That may have nothing to do with it, but what the hell, I like to sound like I know what I am talking about.

I would run into sluggishness with 50 or so tracks (allbeit non-continuous audio on each track) and I did bump my ram up to 1GB and haven't been able to gum up the works since - I was working on a movie in ACID with more than 100 tracks of non-continuous audio for over 25 minutes and no problems.

As spin said, a quick fix would be to take some of your tracks and submix down to less tracks.

Correct, as Brad has said, you can submix down to less tracks.

OR........ you can "Render To New Track" each one of your tracks seperately.

You will still have the same amount of tracks.

Except Acid will not have to juggle 1,500 kicks, 1,500 snares, 1,500 hi hats, 2,000 snippets of sample A, 2,000 snipets of sample B, 2,000 snippets of sample C, 20 tracks of cut vocal phrases, etc...

And... if you RTNT, Acid will have an easier time reading the info (because each track will be ONE continuous WAV. file).

And... if you RTNT all of the tracks will be in the same area on your hard drive.

I will try to expound on this in about an hour, I have to finish a mixing project. ;)

Peace...

cool

i am happy that you both clarified rendering to new track for me. i have been doing that, and i have been submixing my tracks. i asked a similar question about another computer that i recently started working with. the other computer is giving me the same problem although it does have less memory. i wonder if i have to bump my 512 up to one gig ddr.

You shouldn't have to bump the RAM up to a gig (that would be nice, but again, you shouldn't have to do that.).

Another option you have is this.......

If your just playing with effects on different track to hear what the out come is, just mute all other tracks that your not using at that time and everything should be hunky dory.

thank's spin and ronnie rokk

i'm happy that i really don't have to bump it up to 1gig. it may be my imagination but, since we started clearing all of the un needed wave files that are saved by default as "recorded track" the program seems to run a little smoother.

Cool, I'm glad that eveything is working out for you.

Remember to name you RTNT's. If you don't, you will get confused as to which track belongs to which songs.

You might want to give each song it's own file folder.

Peace...
