anyone have an aquarian powerhouse kevlar snare head?
even if you dont, whats your opinion?

Power-House™: The Power-House™ snare drumhead is especially designed for "hard hitters". This head is constructed with a single ply of Kevlar® and incorporates Aquarian's "Compressed Resin Process". The Power-House™ head also features Aquarian's patented Power-Dot™ in the center for added strength and durability. This head has a wide open resonant sound, superior snare response and a "drummer-friendly" feel. It is available in black or white.

yeah i guess you can... hmm havent seen that one. i never saw a kevlar head on anything but marching snares before..... wonder if it will crack like a marching snare!

or since its kelvar ... can you use it as a bullet proof shield

lol yeah...
i guess my question shoulda been would it sound ok on a snare used for a kit

If you hit hard, I'd suggest going with a Remo Emperor X (medium-tight tension). With proper tuning (duh!), and a decent resonant (settle for a coated Ambassador, medium-low tension), you'll have yourself rocking in no time!

Be forewarned - if you use a Kevlar head on a standard snare drum - I have seen a drummer actually break the lugs on a regular snare caused by putting too much tension on the drum. A Kevlar drumhead will tighten much tighter than a standard head will, and the lugs on a marching drum are designed for extremely high tensioning.

If you've never been in drum corps - playing on a marching snare is like playing on a Formica covered tabletop or a desk. It's tensioned so tight that it is literally is as hard as a rock.

So, just be careful in how tight you go with this thing if you get it.

Personally, I got to the point where I didn't care for Kevlar heads on a snare. I used to use Falams K heads on the snare. These days I just use a Pinstripe, although once I can set the kit up again and start playing - I'm going to switch my snare head to a Coated Pinstripe just because the coated heads work better for the traditional grip one-handed roll.

thanks..
ive played on kevlar in marching band...
i really just love the feeling and the sound of it

I use that head on my old Ludwig chrome over maple snare. It is a pretty dry head, but it has a certain coolness to it. I have also used it on my Pearl Free-floater (8 inches, maple) and my Premier Heavy Rock 9. The free floater was good, but I didn't like it on the Rock 9.

I tune my snare kind of low, so I have never pulled my snare apart trying to tune it, but I have seen it happen.

The heads do last a long time, but I have put sticks through them. Once you wear through the first layer, it's time for a new head.

aight i think i might get one then...
thanks for the help once again

I got the Hi-Energy and it sounds amazing i remember i got a cs controled sound from remo (sounded good) then i got a powerstroke 3 (worst snare head i ever got i tuned it hit it played it took it off)

i still wanna know if the kelvar head is bullet proof :p
No it isn't. If I can put a stick through one, I'm sure a bullet won't have a problem. If you shot at a pile of them, I'm sure it would stop by the 4th or 5th head.

awsome im ganna go out into my yard and try it now. ill have my friendn shoot at me through the heads, think a .45 is to big to try with ? ;)

The resulting bounce is good.

I guess we'll find out if you don't post back!

i used to play with a drummer who had a kevlar head on his snare, and it was the most awesome thing ever for balls out, crazy-ass metal. i do remember having some issues getting the metallic ping out of it when recording, but other than that it had a great, tight, sound to it

it was indestructable, too...even after the top layer of kevlar starting peeling off and he decided he was going to replace it, we did everything short of shooting it to destroy it, and nothing worked...beating, stabbing, kicking, throwing, whatever. then he decided he was gonna keep it, haha.
