Ribbons are about -30dB down from condensers, so you'll have to move them much closer than the mics you're using.

Thanks for that info. Sounds like ribbons wouldn't be usable for me. Are they really 30db lower! That's pretty amazing.

How do you achieve more than 50db without feeding back?

I can't peak my AT4050 or Blue Baby Bottle & Grace 101 without feeding back.

I use earbud type headphones.

I stated that I use earbuds in hopes that the reader might conclude that not only are the earbuds sealed in my ears, but as to say they are as quiet as possible; not only because they are earbuds, but because they are in my ear, requiring the most minimal of volume.

Of course I decided to go against my instinct that always reminds me that questions in a forum require a schematics worth of information before people start grasping the true substance of them.

But hey, thanks for the "turn down your monitors" idea. It'll be helpful for somebody. Let's wait those three years you mentioned, the concept might turn out to be someones guiding light.
