Are there any racks out there that would work with say.. the OSA modular preamps but are less expensive than the ones they sell? How pratical would it be for someone to make there own. Just curious....thanks!

Brent Averill makes an API style rack.

I think they cost more than the OSA racks though.
Thats the thing with those modules, they're fairly inexpensive, but you have to get the rack to power them adding to the cost per channel.

I have the 6 module rack with phantom power from Brent for the API 312's he offers.
Its a nice rack, works like a dream, and while I'm only running 2 modules in it now, the plan is to expand it to 6. So, I'm covered for future upgrades.

I suppose you could make your own. I've seen some home-made jobs on e-bay. None of them looked very good.

If you're going to invest the money in an API or OSA modular mike pre set, then I'd bite the bullet and get a professionally built rack to power and drive them.

The BAE and OSA mounting frames are some of the least expensive frames for mounting those kinds of modules that exist... however, API is having a "special" until the end of the month... order any 4 API 500 series modules and get a free 6 space lunch box with power supply... you can't do much cheaper than free...
