I believe it's a fairly new product and I'm just curious if anyone owns one of these and can share an opinion on it. I already own the DMP3 and a Brick. I'm in the market for another 2 channel pre, but I'm not so sure that Aphex would be considered an upgrade when it comes to preamps. Perhaps I should just go for a Grace or Sytek?

I started with a DMP3 and bought a Sytek. It was a great purchase. I really like the sound of it. Definitely worth the money.

taylorguitarman,

Thanks for the single response. LOL I really didn't think I'd see much in the way of responses.

I ordered the Sytek with Burr-Brown ops on 3 & 4. It should arrive here mid week.

By the way, you play Taylor guitars, right? Whattya have? I've been thinking about buying the 614CE. One drawback that I've been made aware of is that Taylor doesn't use lacquer on their finishes. My understanding is that lacquer finishes promote better ageing with acoustics with an improvement in tone. What's your take on that? Another drawback is that the tops are thinner than Martins, for example, with an increased chance of warping. I've auditioned quite a few of the Taylors and they sound really great, but I'm still a bit hesitant to pull the trigger.

Maybe Light could shed some, well, light on the subject.

The username is a bit of a misnomer now. I only have one Taylor (a 414K). It was my first acoustic guitar. I've got a bit of a collection going now, Larrivee, Lowden, Breedlove, and others, sort of across the board as brands go. I really don't look for my next guitar it just sort of finds me, thus the various brands. Lately though I've been dying to play a McPherson and maybe trade one of my Breedloves.

I've grown to love my Taylor over the years I've owned it, it's openned up quite nicely. The only downside is the guitar is really finicky when it comes to humidity. Now days though I'm a Breedlove fan. My baby is a C-25K Cal2. I bought an SC-20 last fall with the intention of playing out with it but I'm thinking of maybe selling it and looking into the McPhersons (since I have yet to play out). I'm also a big Larrivee fan. I think they're the best bang for buck these days.

I really think you're going to love the Sytek. I've got the BB option too but I tend to use the standard channels for acoustic work and the BB channels (or my DMP3) for vocals.

Taylors and Martins aside, I've also had my eyes on Breedlove. If you are serious about selling PM me with a phone number. I'll call you.

I'm sure I will. Same intention here for usage.

Give a review of the Sytek once you get to play with it. I'm curious to how it sounds compared to the Brick and DMP3. I'm considering all three for my next purchase.

I have a Digi002R, and for me it was the obvious choice because it gives you 4 high quality channels, I don't think there is anything out their under a $1000 that can offer that. I love it, if I had a bigger studio I'd buy another (i have found a use for more then 4 channels yet...I don't know enough mics or cables anyway haha).
