Apex420 Anyone ?

Hi guys,

Does anyone here know anything about the Apex420 Condenser mic or how it compares to the Rode NT2 or the AT 4033.

I was at a local music store yesterday and a Apex Rep was there. He told me that the Apex420 blows away the NT2 and the AT 4033, but what else would you expect a rep to say of his own product right ?

So I thought I would ask the real experts!

I would be using it mostly for vocal work and maybe some acoustic guitar.

Any input/advice would be appreciated !!!

My buddy owns an apex 420 and loves it.
I tried it against my at 4033 and the 4033 is a better mic, but the apex 420 is about $170
cheaper than at 4033 and in my opion the apex420 is well worth the price.
the apex 420 has the omni feature something at 4033 dosen't have.
I just compared them on vocals.
 
I have a pair of 4033s and a single 420. It's a decent mic but I feel the top end is exagerated. The omni pattern isn't bad. If I could only have one or the other I'd take the 4033 hands down.
 
I finally got my Apex 430 (not 420, mind you) today. First thing I did was did a head-to-head with my 4033.
My result is that the 430 makes my voice sound alot better than the 4033 does. I still like the 4033 better for micing a guitar cab, and for percussion. But the 430 will be the mic I use for my vocals from now on.

Apex 420 or NT1 for vocals ?

So do you think the Rode NT1 has better sound for vocals than does the Apex 420 ?
