The CDs are used at the College where I teach, and most find them very useful. They can get a bit boring to listen to, but they're not for your listening enjoyment.
You can also just test yourself by creating tracks with pink noise and music, raising/lowering frequencies and then testing yourself later to see if you can recognize what you did. The CDs are pretty exhaustive though and worth the money IMHO.
