The only question now is
What effect will the 36" make on the wall unit.
John?
Thanks again

Reduce the size of the desk. A standard office desk is 30" deep X 60" long. Most desks are not this large, you could use a smaller one. Is the column 4" in diameter? and if you gave an exact location of it, I could draw it in the exact place... you might pick up enough space to allow for a 48" unit instead of 36"

That would allow a lot of things that are cirrently a problem in the room to be resolved.
The beam actually is supported by that 4" pole which supports my livingroom floor. So as much as I would like to get rid of it, I think my wife would not appreciate the move.
Thanks again

cheers

That would work. Just strengthen the walls just under the I beam. Not a problem. I was thinking about things here at work (on campus) where people start wanting to knock out support columns to "make a larger room" or because it is in the way. Nevermind the 13 floors above them.Go figure. This place has my mind closed to modifying anything related to the structure... liability reasons. That's fine with me... keeps my job easy
I saw your DIY wall units and was wondering if they could be used as below to make a sound box.
I know nothing about studio design, but my father and I just ordered the equipment to record his music. We want to use your Wall unit design to make a box that can be assembled and taken down.
Could this work?
Thanks,
Joe
