I wanted to lay down a guitar track to the bass and drums but there seems to be some timing issues. So for the hell of it I broke out my trusty drum machine and pounded out a basic beat. Then I added Rokket's Bass track and a couple of guitar tracks. You can still hear some timing deviations between the bass and the other tracks in a few spots but it isn't horrible.
If you want to check it out it's named "HR-Collab-Rough"

I listened to the basic tracks at work also and thought there was some timing fluctuations too...
Glad to see it wasn't just me listening and multitasking ;)

Yep, I may try and have the drums re-tracked today - I hadn't really had time to listen to it (other than trying to line it up, while doing three different things at once). It seems as though both the bass and drums are drifting a bit (drums more than the bass) - I think playing to the existing drum track threw him off a bit, as he's used to playing to a click. I'm headed up to his place soon, and maybe by tonight, we can set a click to the scratch, and just record off the click and bass tracks.

Sorry - :(

Guys!! Guys!!! I'm totally fucking Angelina Jolie right now!! As soon as I'm finished, I'll start that guitar track.

Whew!! Wow, that was amazing...and I beat my old time!! Now for that guitar track.

I can retrack the bass if needed too. I got a bit carried away with it. I can redo something a bit cleaner, if needed....

Ok,ok,ok -

Drums have been re-tracked. I haven't had a chance to listen yet, and won't till Monday.

They should keep time better, it sounded good during tracking, and the VERY BRIEF playback at the drummers studio. There are 9 drum tracks, so it's a big DL.

Edit - ooops forgot the link (DO NOT USE UNTIL 7:00 PM PACIFIC)

Call me ignorant, but I can't seem to find the timing issues in my bass line.... can someone give me points on the timeline where it goes astray? I may be too close to the source (and listening on a shitty monitoring chain), but I can't hear it....

Hey guys, I think I am getting somewhere with the lyrics. I posted a version of myself singing the song here so you can get some idea of how the vocal line will sound (hope that's o.k. with you, Rokket). I will retrack once I get the final music.

Here are the lyrics and a tentative title change:

DONE WITH YOU (HR.com Collaboration song)

Wasting my time
On forgotten words and memories
Staring at the floor
On the verge of falling in between
These lines
Dividing you and me

Looking for an answer
To a question that I can’t define
Reaching for the door
That only leads me back inside
To these habits
Locked within my mind

I’m getting tired of all this lying
Hidden needs and false beliefs
Obscure the truth that lies beneath
That what we have is slowly dying
No matter what we do or which we choose
I’m done with you done with you done with you

Biding my time
With twisted rhymes and melodies
Wish I had not seen
Your faith in me fade so quickly
You could be
The one to make me real

You know I’d tear this world apart
And put it back together
If I could convince myself
That maybe this love is better
Than any other
Pain I’ve known

You could say I’m sick of trying
The endless fights and listless nights
Clinging to this soul that doesn’t care
That what we had once now is dying
No matter what we do or which we choose
I’m done with you done with you done with you

I’m getting tired of all this lying
Hidden needs and false beliefs
Obscure the truth that lies beneath
It doesn’t matter that I’m dying
for you’ve only got this one moment
to lift your life above the rest

Wow! My little spark started a forest fire! Now I can't wait until this thing is complete.

I love what you've done with it!

Scrubs, I am going to download it and put it on my MR-8 to play with some harmonies in the vocal of the chorus....

This is 1000 times better than the scratch vocal I put up (of course it was written in about 5 minutes)....

Still waiting... Plus I am getting bored with posting.... so I keep checking in this thread.
I am going to post the harmony vocal ideas I have in awhile. Hopefully, there will be something good to see when I do come back in here... (hint, hint) :D

OK... Scrubs' vocal with my backup harmonies is now up:

So someone check it out, and let me know if it will work, or what needs to be different.
Keep in mind it was done quickly, so the performance may be lacking (may be?)... I am just looking for an overall feeling if I am on the right track...

EDIT: I fixed the url.... I think....

Yep, it's fixed.

I just got done downloading the new drum tracks. It sure would be nice to have some guitar tracks to out on this... (hint, hint.... :D )

Hey, I'm back! I saw the stuff about having a new drum track to play to, so I figured I'd better wait for it. Since everything's up, I'm going to download it all today, and get going on the guitar parts tonight.

Rokket and everybody -

Here is a quick mp3 sample of the bass and drums -

Just gave a quick listen when I was running out the door (again)...

Great job mixing the drums NL5!!! :D

Even if the actual wave tracks sound only a smidgen better of what I heard on the mp3 you've definitely got a great mix there...

Bravo!

Well, thanks, but i didn't really mix the drums - little comp on the kick and snare and the cheesey SX verb on the snare - Othere than that, it's pretty much a fader up mix. The cymbals don't sound up to their usual quality, I think that may have to do with recording at 16/44 instead our normal 24/48. I wanted to do the whole project at 24/48, but the files were getting to big for some people.

Can't wait for the guit's and vox!!! :D

The recording quality is good but that drummer plays like ass. Every time he does a fill he slows down , hesitates at the end, and then jumps back on tempo at the beginning of the verse. If you play a click along with the drums you will hear just how bad his timing is. I'm not trying to be mean. I would just hate to see a good song end up sounding weak because of timing issues.

Hi tenkas. If you are so inclined here is a something that I put on another board hoping to get some collaboration on. Give it a shot if you'd like.

Piece of Funk
