The BR-864 seems like a pretty cool machine, but I can't find any stores that sell it yet. Anyone on this forum using it?

I can only assume you're talking about the BR-8. Which has been discontinued. I use the BR-8. I think it's a nice machine but if I were in the market now I would go with the BR-1180. This is bascially an upgrade of the BR-8 and the reason it is now "vintage". If you're low on funds though, check out ebay. You can generally find one on there around $350 or lower I think (don't quote me).

BR 864 is very new. I saw it on the AMS site though.
Similar to the Fostex MR-8 but looks like it has longer recording time with the same size CF card.

Ahhh, gotchya. Then it may not even be available yet. I know they advertised the hell out of the BR-1180 before it was available.

Just saw on some website that it's available in May, er something.

I would like to know how Roland/Boss is able to so much more recording time out of the same size flash card as other comparable machines. The 864 literature says 1hr track time on a 128Mb card while MR-8 from Fostex is something like 24min track time on the same size card. Does the 864 trade off recording quality and frequency response for recording time? The other thing I haven't seen on the 864 is if there are any editing capabilities...
