Just wondered if anyone is using these mics? I never seem to hear anyone mentioning EV only the RE10, 15 & 20, but SOS gave all these mics excellent reviews in '89!

Paul White said they were very tube like and that the 'budget' ($400 at the time) RE200 sounded very much like the £1000 RE1000! He also said he thought it would make a great vocal mic! The specs on the 1000 & 2000 especially are very good and I'm surprised no-one mentions using them?

From what i can gather, these mics sound like they may be a little different and thus very usable?

I think it is possible to get good deals on the RE1000 now ($500) and the RE200 is on sale in the US for only $180 - £240! Not sure how much the top of the line RE2000 is now though?

Anyway, I'm currently trying to get myself a RE200 for $60!!

BUMP! Just wanted to give this thread another chance, as these mics seem to have been missed my most and they seem pretty decent?

I did a "shootout" with a RE1000, AKG C12VR, AT-4060, Brauner VM-1, Blue Cactus, Blue Bottle, Soundelux U95s, GT AM62 and a DPA LD mic last year , the RE100 was my least fovorite, way to harsh sounding.....

So does this mean the RE1000 is total crap, or is it just not in the same league as those other 'top' mics?

I just paid $150 for one that was used twice, did I waste my small amount of cash?

I also paid $110 (inc shipping) for a NEW RE200. Anyone got an opinion if this was a worth while purchase?

Hey Plexi!

How would you rank those mics you did the shootout with?

Im very curious about the cactus.

I would think you could find a used RE-16 off ebay pretty reasonably.

Seem as though this old thread has been dragged up, just thought I'd say that I am very pleased with my mint condition RE1000 and for $150, it was a steal.

It has a real natural tone and I don't find it harsh at all? May be it did seem harsh against those other quality mics, but I have no experience of these. I think that it is also posiible that Plexi had a dodgy RE1000 or that it did not suit the pre amp, as I really think it is a class piece of gear.

Anyone else like the RE1000? I think it is very underated. The RE200 was also a great buy.

I just tracked some guitar tracks with an EV Re1000 and a royer. I thought it sounded very nice. I used and old Gibson Skylark and a little bit of juice from a pedal and it tracked much like a Vox. Real great mids and chime. It's the second time I've recorded at this place and used the same set up. I plan on adding one as well once my studio is complete.
