How do you reckon they got it to be multipattern? And was it any good?

i would guess that they used harvey's CAD e200 design trick: two different single elements, lined up just right with some electronics to mix them together...

another wild guess, would be that they used two elements from the d12 series, cause the mic looks like a d12/d20 sort of thing.

Well, the ebay ad says it was made in 1958. And apparently one was used on Ringo's Kick (see here)

So I doubt Harvey had much influence on its design.
