Anyone record a drumset with "built in" mics?

I'm playing with a new band and we're set to start recording a 5 song EP/Demo in a couple weeks. The drummer has a beautiful DW kit with mics that are actually built into each drum. He can hook an XLR up to a small jack on the underneath side of each drum. He runs a pair of 603's as overheads and it seems to sound pretty good live.

I'm wondering if they're even worth bothering with recording? He seems to think they'll be all we need, so I don't want to hurt his feelings over it, but I also don't want to track a bunch of unusable stuff...

Any thoughts?

do it... if you don't like it, do something else.

Record something and LISTEN to it and you tell us.

I've thought of trying it both ways, or even seeing if I could record both simultaeously, but was hoping to hear if anybody has already tried it.

I guess my HD24 has the capacity to record that many tracks at a time...

yea...its probably a 10 min process....track him for about 2 mins playing with the built-in mics...then take 5 mins to switch mics....track for 2 more mins with external mics....then...uh oh....4 mins to listen....um....so a total of about 13 mins should do it....

I guess I can spare 13 minutes

BTW, thanks for thinking I can mic up a drum set in only 5 minutes. You've obviously never seen my skill in ass-dragging... :)
