I'm looking at an Alesis Monitor one MK2 Monitors and an Alesis M1 MK2 Monitors. Other than the off axis tweeter and the sound holes. Can anyone tell me the difference (in sound) if they know.

I've heard the M1 MK2 Monitors but not the others, and was wondering if they are similar (by the price I assume not).

Alesis Monitor one MK2 are old. And i think they are sealed. The M1MK2's are ported for bass responce. Youll find that a lot of ppl on here do not like those monitors at all. Apparentley they are boosted in the lower fewq's to improve its bass responce and thats not a good thing. I was considering those at a point but got the KRK RP8's instead and i like em. Much better monitors.

Aren't the Monitor one passives? Could explain the price difference...

Yes, that's what I learned today. Apparently the Monitor One Mk2 are passive while the M1 MK2 are active.
However, yes the Alesis are boosted on the lower frequency to improve the bass response. I'm not so sure that is a bad thing. If you have/have not bass you want to hear it. I suppose you can break down and purchase a sub, instead. However since I'm doing voiceovers I would prefer a bassy sound instead of a higher sound. I have plenty of stereos to test my mixes in from a surround sound 5.1 channel stereo, to a crappy CD player I keep in the garage.

By the way, I just finished purchasing a pair of TR6 actives on e-bay.

Dracon, the Alesis actives didn't work for me. I was overwhelmed by bass, which muddied everything else. My studio space is small, though, and that probably made a difference. Also, I prefer a slightly bright sound while mixing. I had the ports stuffed with socks and still couldn't find the clear mids and highs I that like to work with. Finally, I returned them.
