Anyone know of a Yamaha AW16G discussion group?

Fuzzy Dice,

Sorry about that - I really meant the CD-RW drive. The 20-Gig hard-drive would be more than enough for my present needs, also, but it would be nice to know that the H-drive could be changed by the user, at such time that the need might arise. THANX.

Blessings,

Nate.

NLAlston, you CAN install a CD-RW drive in the AW16G.It's right here in my owner's manual (pages 10-11) Cheers.

Wait a minute...I thought the AW16G had the CDRW drive built in not as an add on.

All the pirctures show it with one. I may be misunderstanding your comments here as you may discussing upgrading a CDRW drive rather than adding one but please let me know.

I hope to be getting one at the end of January after some B-day money and a 1K (before taxes) recruiting bonus from work.

Yahoo and good buy 4 track cassette!

They all come with a CD-RW.At one time yamaha must have thought about two different versions. They never took it out of the owner's manual. If the CD-RW ever dies, you'll have instuctions on putting a new one in-cheers

Hey there, Scooter B ~

And sorry that it took so long getting back to you. Yes, I am aware that the AW16G's do incorporate the CD-RW drive as standard equipment. I was concerned as to whether, or not, that drive could be changed out by the user, in the event of unit failure. I had previously read somewhere that those drives could only be obtained from - and installed by Yamaha. Someone, since, had replied that this was erroneous information.

It looks, however (at least, at present), as though I may not be able to swing the monies for the AW16G, and today I went out to look at the Fostex MR-8. That unit suited my pocket perfectly, and I asked for one. It turned out that they had sold out on those units, and had quite a list of buyers awaiting their next shipment. Looking back on it now, I am glad that matters traveled as they did - regarding the MR-8. I say this because I really don't think that I would have been happy with that unit. It might have sufficed my needs, for the present time being, but it would have to have been used in conjunction with our PC in order for me to get the most out of it. This is the very thing that I wanted to avoid, and I will just have to bide my time until I can get that AW16G. There is a very slim possibility that the Yamaha may be in the very near future for me. I'll just have to wait and see what happens. Just for the sake of asking: Does anyone know who has the cheapest price on the AW16G's? I called Musician's Friend, and they are selling those units for $999. I know that these new Yammie units are worth that - and more - but please let me know if anyone has found them any cheaper. THANX.

Blessings,

Nate.

NLAlston,$870 or lower at music123.com but you have to go through a couple of steps.Go to the front of this thread and read down a few and there is money in your pocket-cheers

Goto http://www.music123.com/item/?itemno=76829 and click on the Seen it for Less link. Then say that altomusic.com had it for $878. You'll get an email with a price quote for around $870 or less. If you have a local guitar center, print out the quote and take it there, otherwise you could order from music123.

Hi again,

I went to the Music123.com site, and did as was suggested. However, they replied that they couldn't do anything about that request because there wasn't enough information from that site. The best that they would do was $988 (I believe it was), with no taxes & free shipping.

I went to the AltoMusic site to see what was going on. When I typed Yamaha AW16G in their product 'search' window, they came back with 'nothing found'. So, I would assume that they aren't selling them anymore.

Blessings,

Nate.

I ordered one from them last night for $865.99. The alto web site doesn't show it so I read the first few posts from this thread to the sales dude and he broke down and gave it to me for the price others paid. Also got a MXL 603 for $74.99.

I won't get my referral bonus untill the end of January and it will be $1,000 before taxes. I hope te get maybe $100 cash in B-day money early January.

I am praying the price competition keeps it below $900 until I can get one.:D ;) :( :D

I knew that the $1,099.00 + taxes for this recorder (from our local Guitar Center store) would most definitely have been beyond the financial measure of my pockets, but If I could get one of these units for, say - $850 or so (especially with no taxes, or shipping costs), then I know that I could swing that somehow - in about another week. I'll give them (Music123) a hollar, next Thursday, and see what they say.

Blessings,

Nate.

yamaha aw16g - " error : hdd not ready " ? help

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hi,

i just bought a yamaha aw16g multi-track. when i turn it on i get this msg > " error : hdd not ready " . i guess theres a problem with the internal hard-drive. the unit was posted from sydney to perth + the previous owner never had this error msg. im assuming the unit is quite solid + given that it was packaged quite well i thought it would've been quite safe in the post. any ideas ?
cheers,
dan
