I have a double pedal but have been reluctant to learn it. Anyone know a site that teaches you the coordination of using a double pedal?

Hey there,
Ok ... your a drummer right?
You know how 16th work and all with your hands. Just apply that method with your feet..Double Bass is something that one can only learn on thier own. You will in time, create your own techniques and rythms.

Good Luck,
Wm.

I suggest you get some videos on the subject. They are taught buy the top drummers and you can play them over and over till you get it right then sell them back on e-bay and re-coupe some of your money. The Tommy Aldridge one is a good starter.

This course gaurantees you will be playing with your feet just as fast as you play with your hands, but it's $130. You can fill out the survey and get a free one hour audio tape and "report" (which I am told is the site just printed out). I heard the free tape was boring, but you might be interested.

go to ebay and in the search box type in kevin talley.
he was the drummer for dying fetus and he has a 3 hour instructional drum video for sale. it is at $17 right now.
this guy is a double kick monster.

You've learned how to drum with your hands, correct? Same concept applies to feet. Play quarters to get your indepedance. Increase the speed. Whatever you do, don't sacrifice technique for speed. Make sure all the notes fall where they are and that you are PLAYING the notes, they aren't fluttering or rebounding.

A couple of points!!

First- I've said this once before but I'll say it again.... don't let people tell you that running or playing basket ball will help your double bass skills. Playing basketball will only make you a better basket ball player. Running will make you a better runner....
It's not really muscle that you're after, it's muscle control!

Second-The slower you go, the faster (if that's what you're after) you'll get!

Last- One good thing that helped me was to do this for kicks (no pun intended!):
Grab you're favorite CD that you like to jam with, or get out your click if you play with one. Play all the things that you normally play but use your left (I'm presuming you're right handed) foot ONLY. You'll not only see quick results, but you'll also see how weak in terms of control your other leg is.

Good luck and by all means.... practice not only drums, but persistance as well.

Double pedal techniques?

I got the intro tape for ballistic drumming and it really didn't interest me, so I never ordered the course.
I use an old Yamaha double pedal and I was wondering if there were any special techniques because I find the response time on the slave pedal a bit sluggish. Well I've gotten used to it, so no problem.
The advice above was excellent, and you can really just learn it on your own. Try practicing without using your hands for a while, then gradually play patterns and practice switching from your slave pedal to sock pedal. This is how I originally learned it when I played double kick drums (in way that was easier because both pedals felt exactly the same).
You will eventually get fast and comfortable with it, but a word of warning----do something interesting with it. Don't just play a steady onslaught of rapid 16ths with your kicks, it will muddy up the music. I usually switch to the slave pedal to play a pattern or burst as an accent and then it's back to the sock pedal. I've even gotten rid of the drop clutch from my sock because I don't ever use it or need it.
