I own it. I dislike it. Harsh and metallic is a perfect description. Plus you can get a MXL V67 or Studio Projects B1 for cheaper. Those mics have better reputations. (FYI- I have not used either of these mics, but have a SP B1 on order. So I can't talk from first hand experience.)

Consider a Rode NT1A or an Audio Technica AT3055. You'll need a phantom power supply in your preamp to operate these successfully.

I've got a B1, and found it useful for vocals, and as a room mic during jam sessions. There are definitly better mics out there, but it's usable, especially if your preamp/phantom power source is cheap anyway (the better your gear, the more the nastiness comes out).
I have since upgraded, and am planning some more mic purchases, so I will be selling mine soon, but it was a fine start for me to learn a few things about the use of a large diaphragm condensor mic.
Dethska- what were you using yours for? I didn't like it on my drums at all (on snare or overhead- and too sensitive/clipy for bass drum).
BTW- Chessrock used to really like this mic (see thread link below). That said, he's got a pretty severe personality disorder, so you never know if you are going to get answers (sometimes good info), or just total BS in his posts.

In Chessrock's defense, that post was from awhile ago, and he has since stated that his initial reactions were a little off.
I used the Behringer on Acoustic guitar, drum room mic, bass drum mic, and vocals.
The thing it sounded best on was acoustic guitar, but I didn't try to mix it with anything. It sounded poor on the bass drum, and didn't really work all that well as a room mic.
On vocals it wasn't HORRIBLE. But, it did sound fairly harsh and metallic. Or maybe that's just the way I sound. At first I thought I was distorting something in some weird way.
If my stupid back ordered SP B1 would ever get here, I could do an A/B and confirm my suspicions that the Behringer sucks. But, until then I only know that I don't really like it's sound, but I don't know if it's something I'm doing or if it's the mic. I suspect it's the mic judging from other people's opinions of it.

well it was nice to find out peoples opinions and i should've looked a little harder about the b1 but anyways I'm a cheap bastard so having a cheap mic wouldnt make the sound any worse.

to the guy who has to pay bills and works at a part time job for $7.50 an hour and is learning as he goes, the B1 might seem pretty good...now if i actually shelled out the money to go into the studio i would probably have another opinion....but it just depends on a person's experience level. I decided to buy it anyway but i'm not under any circumstances believing this mic is the end all and be all of my recording. lets look at where i started shall we? you know that little mic that comes with your computer when you buy a "ready made package?" that was the first mic. recorded an acoustic cd with that lol. the next one was a mic bought at best buy and i recorded a cd with that too. as i see it..i cant really go anywhere but up so lets just look at this mic as another step in the evolutionary ladder....somewhere around cromagnon but walking on two legs at least right? LOL

It would certainly take some kind of disorder for me to like that thing. Yeesh. That said, I figure you'll get a decent answer out of me most of the time, with a few glaring exceptions (see above). With guys like CJay, I'll admit you pretty much know what to expect on a more consistant basis. Which isn't much, granted, but as long as a high degree of intellect and/or original thought aren't required, then you shouldn't be too disappointed.

The older Behringer B2 is a pretty nice mic ( I have one. ) I think you can get them now for about 120 bucks. I don't know about the B1. I've read good reviews and bad reviews, sometimes both even from the same reviewers. I've gone from liking to hating to liking some of my junk several times. The same mic can sound different to me on different days. Some days I hate the NTK - other days I like it - other days I thought the B2 sounded better. I loved the 603 when I first got it - now I'm liking it less and less. You just have to keep in mind that all opinions you read here and everywhere are just that - opinions. And those are constantly changing. I read "pro" reviews all the time of the same gear..different people..different opinions...some say it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, others say you're a fool if you buy this piece of trash. Better just find out for yourself and understand what the opinions of others generally are - fleeting perceptions from unstable faulty people. Oh, and today I think the B1 probably stinks.

I have a Behringer B1, SP B1 and a v67g. The Behringer is definately the crapper in the bunch but it's not a total piece of shit. I use it to record my daughter (she's 6 so all you perverts just back off) and it works good on her. She can scream her head off into the mic and I don't care if it gets screwed up. If you can get one used for about 40 bucks just stick the mic in the corner and use the case and shockmount.

i dont understand... why you bought that cheap mic when it was stated here that you can get better microphones for the same or even less...
i mean, you wouldnt be getting something any less "cheap" it'd just be more usefull for the same price. oh well. but yeah, there were obviously a few mics you could have gone for that would have been better for the same price... and been a better stepping stone... but anyways thats just my 2 cents.

people have different views most of the reviews i read were....and they almost seemed a little too good and i've kinda noticed that anything under $150 gets bashed here so i read what yall hate about it and then i make a decision. its not like i ignore everything yall say...i just want your opinion too
