anyone have some suggestions on a "fairly" inexpesive shotgun mic?

we don't need rest!!
used is ok too...but specific models that do a really good job at rejection. this is for recording outside..birds, sound effects...stuff like that.
 
You might do better to get a parabolic reflector (Sony make one called the PBR-330), and use it with an EV RE-50 (or any other omni) - that combination will beat a shotgun hands-down anytime... and will most probably be far cheaper than a good shotgun plus the oh-so-expensive "Zeppelin" windscreen.

oh....I thought your were asking for a good mic to record a shotgun. I've been looking for one myself....nevermind
 
Man, I was wrong, too.

I thought he was talkin' about a good mic that will also double as a hunting rifle. I guess that would be tough to pull off. My mistake.
