I have been mulling over options as far as a complete portable rig.

I have been thinking that, in terms of tracking, for simplicity and bang for buck that an all digital set up will be the best long range solution.

Digital mixers (like the WR DA7 i think?) have on board dynamics and EQ and some have effects. This would allow me to travel lighter and maybe limit my outboard neccessities.....except the eventual mic pre upgrades?

And hard disk seemd like its going to be the most practical.
ADAT and DA series stuff is really cheap now but I will be faced innevitably with head wear and replacement......so hard disk seems the most solid.

Now.....this DA7 console that's available has 2 Tascam connector cards installed.

Are these a DIGITAL connection????
Do these HAVE to hook up to Tascam equipment????
Is it a completly different digital protocall or is it just a different analog connector????

I know that some Tascam stuff just uses d-sub connectors for analog connection.

I would probably be looking, recorder-wise, toward the Fostex hard disc or the cheaper Mackie (of the two 24trk Mackies).....and they both have ADAT connections.

Are there adapters?????

Finnally........what would be a really good deal on this mixer????
Is it a solid mixer????
How do the pre's compare and the converters???

Eventually I would like to be able to have a solid "demo" rig.
I would prolly then mix at home.....i.e. with better monitors and the computer to mixdown to.

Thanks

I have a RAMSA WR-T820 analog mixer.

RAMSA has orphaned the entire line. Ours still has the $6500 price tag on it from Skips Music in Sacramento. It is probably worth about $800 now. I won't be purchasing more Panasonic gear anytime soon.

I have a WR-T820B mixer and its pretty decent in sound, but its starting to get to the point it needs servicing.
Ive heard some good things about the DA7 from a guy name Joe Chicarrelli. If joe enjoys wroking on them and says their a pretty good deal it would be worth some investigation. You can ask Joe himself at the Artistpro.net website BBS. Joe is a really great guy and has gobs of knowledge.

Peace,

Wow....very cool tip.

I will try and garner some of Joe's extensive knowledge about this unit.

Thanks.
