...over solid bodies?

I sure do, I love the sustain, and at high volumes they are a little out of control, which I enjoy.

I have a '81 Carvin SH225, with coil taps and a phase switch, stereo. The neck and body are Hofner, hardware is all Schaller, so basically its a Hofner.

Anyway, I've played a million guitars. I have a '76 les paul custom, Gretsch 7166, and a MIJ fender strat. This one is the best. The electronics were all shot when i bought it so it ended up with the repair cost at a grand total of.... $380 with case. They go for $800 on ebay.

I really enjoy microfret guitars too...

Anyway, tell me about your cool hollowbodies.

hollowbody guitars

I always wanted a hollowbody but didnt think I could afford a new one. what about an epiphone casino? Any good? I play a 1992 strat. :(

My current Guitar, an Oscar Schmidt Bluesman, which is hollowbody. I also just sold a Oscar Schimdt Delta King Bass, which I would have kept if it had been a 5ver.

It took a look at the photo of your Carvin. If it sounds as good as it looks, that's quite a guitar.

My first electric: a Hofner New President. Had it a year, and I'm lovin' it. Nice fat tone. And tone. You can be very mellow with this instrument, or back off the tone control and add some reverb in the amp, and it's almost a '60s garage band sound. (I got the violin finish.)

That's a great Hofner site. Thanks. I didn't see any of the violin guitars there, unless I missed them. Just like the violin bass only they're six string electric guitars.

this is my baby. I also play a Strat and Tele, but this is a sweet one. Semi-hollow, however, which allows for much more gain/volume

My new main guitar is a Gretsch 6118 Anniversary. I'd wanted one for years. I also have a Ric 330 and a Danelectro Longhorn Bass.

I ordered this same guitar Monday and it should be hitting my front porch any time now. :D

That is a beautiful Guitar there Phyl. What does it sound like?

It's hard to compare to other hollow or semi-hollow guitars because I haven't played any.

It tends to be a little more bass heavy than a solid body, rounder, fuller tones. Great for rock and roll, great blues tones.

It tends to feed back easily on stage; you have to be very aware of where you are in relation to your amplifier and stage monitors.

i bought an Ibanez AG75 (sunburst) a couple months ago and it's replaced my 89 US Tele as my #1 guitar for both recording and stage. it's got fantastic tone and can go from jazzy super clean to ripping your leg off with minimal knob twiddling. i bought the tele new in 89.

oh, and i got it for $200, too. :D

cheers,
wade

I've had an Ibanez AG75TBS (translucent blue sunburst), for about 2 years now, and I love the hell out of it. Except for a few modelling combinations on my Guitar POD, I've had no acoustic reverb issues with it. With my Peavey TransTube 258 EFX combo or Vox T25 bass combo to chose from, my sound possibilities are virtually endless.

mrface, did ya happen to notice that the AG75 is very playable, right out of the box? Imagine how one would sound, to get it tweaked and intonated! With that, I should probably put "take Ibanez to the shop" on my to do list. :)

I got my Ibanez Artcore for Christmas from my wife. This thing plays and sounds great. I am a bass player but need to have a decent guitar for recording and thought this would do the trick. It was playable right out of the box. Hell, it was almost in tune. Came with brand named strings. I half expected to have to replace them right away.
I also wanted something with a little bit of it's own acoustic volume so I can walk around the house and play it with no amp.

Oh yeah and the color is pretty and it looks cool.

Here's on of mine, a PRS HBI. I had the pups changed and a coil spilt switch added:

And here's a shot of my semi-hollow Thorn Artisan Deluxe in progress. The f-hole design is my wife's idea that Ron Thorn executed to perfection. My wife also helped pick the Koa for the guitar's top.
