That's a great Hofner site. Thanks. I didn't see any of the violin guitars there, unless I missed them. Just like the violin bass only they're six string electric guitars.

The guitar on the bench in my original post and the ones on the rack in the back look like New Presidents. They get Natural or French Polish violin finish. I have one like this:

(I like the concept of French Polish, but the finish is a bit malleable for a guitar. I hear that violinists only touch thier instriments on the neck (not french polished) and the chin rest. We guitarists have to drape our forearm over the lower bout, and doing that in the summer has made a mottled spot on the finish. When I realized that was happenign, I began wearing long sleeves and carrying a cotton cloth. At some point, I will take it to a violin repair person I know who, I hope, will show me how to bring the finish back in that spot.)

I too like the sustain I can get from a hollow body (in my case a semi hollow)

I picked up an Epi Dot - cause I wanted to have that semi hollow option. It is actually a very good guitar for $400. I have since talked to a couple of players who use DOTs live - although they have Gibson 335s at home, they choose not to risk them playing in bars (makes sense to me).

I always wanted a hollowbody but didnt think I could afford a new one. what about an epiphone casino? Any good? I play a 1992 strat. :(

Oh, yeah...Epiphone Casinos rock. If you're referring to the real deal Casino. If I ever get a hollowbody, that'll be the one.

Joe Pass

The Joe Pass Epiphone.. I played one the last time I was at Guitar Center and was blown away.. The ease of playing and the sound of that guitar unplugged were unmatched.. If I get a hollowbody that will be the one.

Here's on of mine, a PRS HBI. I had the pups changed and a coil spilt switch added:

And here's a shot of my semi-hollow Thorn Artisan Deluxe in progress. The f-hole design is my wife's idea that Ron Thorn executed to perfection. My wife also helped pick the Koa for the guitar's top.

Sweet. PRS makes some of the sexist looking semi-hollows I've seen. I'll bet it plays like a dream.

Gibson ES335 or Gretsch Country Gentleman, every serious guitar player should have at least one of them. If they are too expensive, Ibanez Artcore is fantastic for the money and extremely playable.

I play mostly a tricked out Epiphone Les Paul and a Highway one Telecaster, but for some stuff, i use the Epiphone Casino. Yeah, it's a Samick remake, but it's a perfectly good guitar. I don't play much with distortion, and I use a Les Paul with classic 57 humbackers for that anyway. The Casino is wonderful when I want to impersonate an acoustic. For that job. I prefer single coil pickups. P90's are perfect for that. I had an old Gibson thin hollow body, like an ES335, but no center block, and one P-90, middle position. It was my main electric for years.-Richie

i personally find they have poor upper fret access. compare a typical artcore w/ lets say a sheraton II ... and you see what I mean.

I got my Ibanez Artcore for Christmas from my wife. This thing plays and sounds great. I am a bass player but need to have a decent guitar for recording and thought this would do the trick. It was playable right out of the box. Hell, it was almost in tune. Came with brand named strings. I half expected to have to replace them right away.
I also wanted something with a little bit of it's own acoustic volume so I can walk around the house and play it with no amp.

Oh yeah and the color is pretty and it looks cool.
That is a sweet looking axe, very classic looking or something. I'm going over to some sites now to look it up.

Where'd you get that one? It looks familiar, like one I think I saw in a MF catalog for an amazing low price. Not sure if it's the same, I have to go over there now....

Very true! I own an Artcore and there just is no getting up there. It's OK for me I don't have much bidness up there anyway. :) I many bought it for song writing and recording. I'm talking mostly chords and picking lines and stuff. No shredding going on in my house. If I need to get up there, I'll bust out the old Univox LP copy.

Want one

I don't have one but I want one. :p I only have 5 electric guitars, so that's obviously not enough. A Gibson ES335 or maybe a Gretch is on my list. Or perhaps somebody else make a better one than those two big names? They're known for their clean, bell-like tone, but when you overdrive those babies they have a pretty fat sound. Anybody ever seen Equation live? The rhythm guitar player plays a Gretch, and damn does it sound sweet!

It was an Ebay purchase. I think it was less than $225 /w a REALLY nice hardshell case. It stays in tune. I think it sound a little punchier the Delta King model, which is an archtop w/F-holes.

<< mrface, did ya happen to notice that the AG75 is very playable, right out of the box? >>

well, i bought mine used, so there was no "box" to speak of......although it was already setup and ready to rock. i've got a couple complaints about the tuners--they slip a little, but for $200, you can't complain at ALL. :D

cheers,

My current Guitar, an Oscar Schmidt Bluesman, which is hollowbody. I also just sold a Oscar Schimdt Delta King Bass, which I would have kept if it had been a 5ver.
that Bluesman looks a lot like the Delta King I just got. Yours has one piece for the bridge and tailpice, mine is 2 parts, you have the switch bythe dials, mine is up in the other spot, and the jack is on the side, yours is on the top.

my pickups say 421 and 423, my switch is weird, how does yours work?
