I was wondering i have a audio technica 3035 and i need to get a decent or nice sound of a flute has anybody miced a flute before? Its a solo flute to not a group of flutes

mic the flute at the mouthpiece but at an angle as to not get direct air puffs

Rule number 1

Always record the flute in the bathroom. Period !
Not only will you get a nicer sound. But the flautist is likely to play better.
There is nothing more frustrating than playing the flute in a deadened room.
The other alternative (the only if multitracking ) is earphones with some added reverb (on bathroom setting).
Since I play live. I use the clip-on ATM35. The industry's work horse for live wind. Since it is positioned so close to the embouchure. It picks up both the lows and the wind sound very nicely. And yet. It won't pierce any body's eardrums on the higher registers.
That been said. Your 3035 should perform well. Flutes love condencers.
For classical sound 6 to 12 inches. For jazz, pop, etc. You can get as close as you want. Wind sound from the flute is cool (it's in tune). Wind noise from the mic's screen is not cool.

Have you PM'ed beezlebubba? He might be able to help you out.

Quickest way to terrify a flautist is to mic them lol I agree that the accoustics need to be slightly live though...what you need is a nice old church to record it in *smiles*
