WHAT THE DUECE is that shit on the first fret of his guitar???...right up by the headstock ??.looked like half an old sock ?

I've seen a video if this guy with some double neck that I think is specially designed for this kind of playing.

Incredible skills and chops, but I just can't get past those stupid expressions he makes with his mouth...

Here's some older pioneers of this age-old technique:

www.angelo.com

The many Michael Angelo bashing threads on this forum should serve as a warning to this guy to maybe lean toward the jazz stuff. I don't hear people bashing Stanley Jordan so much. Then again, I don't know which of those guys makes more money.

I certainly appreciate the practice that goes into this though.

Michael Angelo gets bashed much more for his choice of subject material and especially HIS FREAKIN HAIR and CLOTHES than he does for his ability as a player. Great player BAD MARKETTING.

it might be just that. it is put under there so that the open strings won't ring, and it's pretty necesary for the kind of playing he does.

Ok, this guy is real good, no doubt. I do love to hear classical music on a guitar too. But some overall comments of the speed demon mentality on guitar.

At some point the excessive amount of notes over and over again becomes unappealing to my ear. I think there is more art in say Dylan banging a few simple chords and wailing a simple melody. Even Ed Van Halen, when he goes off on his own creates some beautiful melody as well Eric Johnson.

Note upon note upon note just turns the listener off. When I hear Michael Angelo, I just turn the music down and relegate it to the background. At some point too many notes is just noise.

Just my humble opinion.

True. But one thing to remember about 'classical music'.....in the 17th and 18th century it was used mostly at formal engaugments for a soothing background....not so much as a focal point of the gathering. IMO that is the most misunderstood aspect of 'classical'.

This guy was playing Bach. Having studied and played some Bach, this music was being performed at the intended tempo. My only problem with this style is can he do it on an acoustic guitar? Really though this is some real great stuff.

Anyone can learn to do this if they forgo getting laid until their mid-twenties. Being able to live with Mom also helps.

Stanley Jordan anyone?

This guy suffers from the main problem that MOST tappers suffer.

He has ZERO control over his dynamics, which is why I find most of them completely unmusical. I've even heard some of these guys say, "well yeah, you can't really control dynamics when tapping." But that is just a bullshit excuse. Now, Stanley Jordan, in the instances I have seen, has control of his dynamics, so it CAN be done. You just have to actually work on dynamics, which I would have to imagine means sitting there and playing the same note over and over trying to have it be the exact same volume (or at least, a specific, controled volume) each time you hit it, which this guy doesn't seem to have done. He seems to spend all his time on dexterity, which is cool and important, but he needs to spend more of his time on getting everything working together dynamicly. If you listen again, you will notice that he loses notes from time to time because he doesn't hit them hard enough. That's not good.

Just one guys opinion, of course.

It is too bad that we don't see talant like this posted as a thread in these forums on a regular basis, as I am sure there are many guys in their mid 20's who still live at home and haven't been laid yet, that frequent these message boards!! :D
