Hi - I am relatively new to this game and have only used Cubase VSt as a tape recorder. My SB live card is ok but I have a feeling that there must be better cards for recording western guitar tracks. M-audio Revolution eg - does anyone in here use that card, and do you have any experience with SB live...
I have just started using an M-audio keystation for midi tracks - but I gather most cards are ok for that purpose

Do you have preamps? Will you be singing at any point? Will you be using a condensor mic? Make sure you get a card that will support your needs. You will definately need mic preamps and a headphone amp is always nice.

I already sing and I have a small Behringer mixer with preamp and tube amp (which makes a little noise - due to SB, or?). I have read that Emu 0404 is good but difficult to operate/install - any views on that? Better to spend a little extra than to be stuck with a lame duck..........(pardon the poor pun!!)

m-audio ain't exactly a picnic either. i think you would be fine with either emu or m-audio. what kind of noise are you getting? it could be from the mixer, preamp, or some kind of grounding issue. getting a new sound card might not cure that.

Latency when recording via M-audio keystation is my biggest concern now, apart from wanting improved sound quality. A better soundcard than SB Live might offer better drivers and thus lower latency....?

I've got the M-Audio FireWire Solo and I am very happy with it. The sound is way better than a Sound Blaster and I've got the latency down to 8ms. I'd highly recommend it.
