I'm getting very distorted sound out of one channel ... hardly any volume and "buzzes" where there should be bass notes.

It's a hardware issue, not software. The same thing happens on playback whether I'm using Home Studio or Tracktion, which are both installed.

Athalon 2600 with 512 MB Ram, brand new (almost empty) 80 GB hard drive, M-Audio Audiophile 2496 sound card.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is this a setting problem with the sound card? with Mackie's control panel/mixer software? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

have you checked any other outputs besides the ones you use going from the mixer to the sound card? if it still buzzes then i would try different cables..if it still buzzes after that then i think the audiophile is damaged

Does it happen when playing back MP3's using Media Player for example?

Have you tried adjusting Buffer Sizes?

Has this AudioPhille ever worked in another system?

Have you tried installing it in another slot and giving it a firm push in the slot?

If its only 1 channel ie; Left then its mostlikely faulty!!!

There's a good lesson ... check the obvious before you go looking for the complicated. It was indeed a cable ... the one with RCA jacks between my sound card and amp. I owe you guys a beer.
