does anyone have experience with the sytek 4 channel preamp?

uhmmm, have you use te search button? :)

I remember Mr H2H has some great songs recorded with the syteks...

I've posted this question before, but where do you get the Syteks? I've been to their website (awful BTW) and the price they list is over $1600. In ozraves review he mentions that they're around $200 per channel. Where can I get them for that price? Where can I get them at all? I have never had a harder time finding a dealer for a piece of gear.

Mike sells all of his units directly on ebay, or you can call the number supplied on their web site and order it that way. He sells all of his 4-channel units for $750, I believe. I just don't think he's had an opportunity to update his web site lately. :D

I got mine from Mike for under $800 including shipping, with the Burr Brown opamps. He said it was a sale and it wasn't on Ebay...

I have a Tascam DM-24, and it's pres are good, but everything sounds much more pronounced with the Sytek. And it's so much better than the Mackie 1202 VLZ-Pro pres I had.

I'm pretty satisfied - when I do upgrade my pres I'll be buying someting much more expensive - like a Great River or something. I finally feel like I'm not limited by my pres at this point. Plus it's good enough to keep around (and use!) once I finally get a bigger client. I love it - on anything; and I mean anything. ;)

I don't know if this is still good, but I ran back through my old messsages and found Mike's address (as of early May 2002): sytek@worldnet.att.net . Shoot him a message and see what's going on right now.

I have one with the burr browns and I also have an RNP. The burr browns give you a thick tone on channels 3 and 4 if that's what you're looking for. It can do wonders for guitars and some vox. I still like channels 1 and 2 better for drums. I will also add that the RNP will do everything the first two channels on the sytek will do for about half the price. If you want some more color you might want to look for something bigger like the 1 channel great river or phoenix. They will give you that "burr brown" iron, but you'll have the cleaner RNP at your service as well.

I will be getting a 2 channel great river and will probably give up the sytek to keep the RNP in its place for the cleaner sounds.

Just my opinion.

How does an RNP compare to the VLZ pro preamps?
